      @Fredselfish

      We are really turning into 1920s red scare horror in the US.

      Both liberal and fascists are united to crush the left. This time by hiding under antisemitism.

        they’re not bothering to hide it because liberals and facists don’t bother to look it up; aoc and bernie both voted for the last time something like this showed up and i bet that they’re going to do it again.

        I’m trying to understand your perspective from your comments. Do you not believe antisemitism is real? Or increasing?

        I believe they are. I also believe genocide in Gaza is bad. I’m a liberal. Just trying to understand why you’re a leftist and I’m supposedly not.

          Antisemitism =/= antizionism.

          Trying to conflate these 2 positions is a shameless strategy by zionists to justify their shameless atrocities. Not to mention that palestinians are literally semites, the actually indigenous people of the region.

          Liberalism is the ideological superstructure of Capitalism, Leftists oppose Capitalism and support Socialism. Everyone believes anti-semitism is real, but since the Liberal status quo needs Israel as a US millitary base in the Middle East, liberals and fascists are joining hands to throw those supporting Palestinian Liberation under the bus.

          Liberalism and fascism are both the ideological superstructures of capitalism, just under different circumstances, liberalism in plenty and fascism in crisis. Both are build upon Capitalism as the base, and as such are more similar than they are different, and the differences are explained by the sharpened contradictions in Capitalism leading to more violent repression. In other words, fascism is the ugly face under the mask of liberalism, and Capital takes off the mask and puts it back on depending on its needs.

            Maybe if you weren’t such a fucking prick, you wouldn’t push away prospective comrades. Big fucking tent you got there boss. FYI those weren’t 5 to 12 million socialists this weekend. And the only reason I stopped identifying as a socialist, then a dem soc, then leftist, is bc of your fucking purity test bullshit. Go ahead and delete this and silence my voice and perspective like every fucking open minded leftist on this site. You’re pathetic. I’ve been in the movement for almost 30 years, have literally bled for this democracy, had guns ground into my temple, close range rubber bullet wounds, burns from tear gas canisters. Fuck. You. Your exclusionary crap is gross and you’re not going to have a seat at the table on the other side of all this. Useful idiots buying into the dichotomy of the oligarchs, pointing fingers at the other 99% while we all get rolled on. This country’s culture reflects its government. You’re not outside of it. You just bunch everyone else on the opposing side of you and recreate the same polarized dichotomy. You will never internalize a word of this bc you’re closed minded arrogant pricks who deserve the disdain of actual working class people. Kinda like the DNC and their old base… You don’t actually care about people with empathy and compassion. Just the next iteration of Bernie Bros. And fuck off, I have always voted for him and left candidates up and down the ballot except general presidential elections, for literally decades. I helped primary Pelosi bc I’m apparently too left for fucking San Francisco. But I’m “another idiot with a stupid question.” I am so sick of you fake fucks. Go get angry about it instead of reflecting like a little baby living in mommy’s basement. You’re not a fucking hero. You live in an echo chamber. As bad as the military pointing guns at the very neighbors they’re supposed to protect in spite of their differences.

            I’ve never heard of a republican being called a liberal though. I’ve seen memes with “libtards”, “libtears,” etc. That to me says liberals aren’t republicans.

              I don’t know how you’ve been on Lemmy for two years and are hearing this for the first time. Previously:

              Liberalism has a definition, which Marxists (and still many liberal Europeans) have never forgotten, though thanks to red scare purges and two cold wars, others have. Now, in Orwellian fashion, “liberalism” and “socialism” are floating signifiers, so we have liberals like Sanders calling themselves socialists, despite never calling for abolishing private ownership of the means of production.

              Wikipedia: socialism: Socialism is an economic and political philosophy encompassing diverse economic and social systems characterised by social ownership of the means of production, as opposed to private ownership.

              Wikipedia: liberalism: Liberalism is a political and moral philosophy based on the rights of the individual, liberty, consent of the governed, political equality, right to private property and equality before the law.

              “Private property,” a.k.a. “the means of production.”

              What people in the US usually call “conservative” and what they call “liberal” are both liberal. Fascists in the Republican party aside, both it and the Democratic party are liberal parties. And liberalism and fascism have more in common than most people realize.

                  What about those comments? The Palestinian genocide has been bipartisan, aided and abetted by both Biden and Trump. And on the campaign trail, Harris created no daylight between herself and Biden on the issue.

                This just seems like a way to confuse the labels and cause infighting even if it’s somewhat correct. Like when republicans claim to be the party of Lincoln, they’re trying to step back from from their bad choices and racism so they can get reelected.

                  Yes, that was the purpose of the curated distinction. These labels were understood in the past and intentionally muddied to disrupt unity against them.

                  So now, for example, instead of a liberal party and a labor party, you have 2 liberal parties. One who identifies as “liberal” while the other identifies as “conservative” but they ultimately serve the same purpose.

                  They want to pass the narrative that liberalism isn’t a conservative ideology and vice versa because that serves their purposes. They want people to fight over which brand of liberalism they prefer, not whether they want liberalism at all.

                    Because

                    • propaganda is most effective when defining and directing allowable discourse
                    • economics as understood by the electorate needs to be simplified and restricted in order to be controlled
                    • terms like ‘liberal’ have been subsumed into identity politics to direct attention away from economic possibilities
                    • social issues are emotional and so more manipulable
                    • this misdirection allows for a controlled opposition, much like brands on a store shelf competing for sales yet made by the same company

              Yeah, I’m not sure how you’re confused by anything being said right now. You could have said “both are fascist” or something if that’s the point you wanted to make. What you said didn’t make any sense. You said “where are the republicans” when they were being mentioned. Idk. Weird. Maybe a typo or something.

          Historically, the moderates in the United States have always been against the left.

          A lot of United States moderates (liberals) support the genocide . I understand the majority of liberals are against the mass murder and war crimes. But it ain’t peanuts for those who do support it. See, for example, the original topic here: at least half the Democratic congresspeople will vote for this.

          It’s really easy to get these all mixed up if one is left leaning.

          The problem with America is that it has multiple flavors of fascist-like behavior, and a limited vocabulary in modern slang to be able to distinguish these with names.

          So I can understand when liberals are called fascists, even if it confuses people.
