operating system dysphoria
I’m in favor of whichever one doesn’t contain “join society”
I’m in favour of whichever doesn’t fill my screen with ads during installation
I can’t be happy with Windows? But then how am I supposed to see outside my house?
So what would WSL look like?

well your very educated and have used Linux extensively, I can see that much
“relearn an entire system” my ass, kde and cinnonmon have a very friendly, windows like interface with a bottom task bar and start menu, and the package manager they ship with is very akin to the microsoft store, this is enough for 95% of people, especially when linux has supported web browsers and basic office suites for as long as im alive probably.

Joke on you, us Linux users dosn’t use that Google spyware

hundred different distros? most are based on either arch or debian, and enterprise distros come with support windows, just like linux has different users which each have their own permissions 🙃 as well as an admin and user level
Mint is very different from Ubuntu, it’s basically Ubuntu but better
Linux is more like a family of operating systems. Each can be different but the share many commonalities. The only time i spend searching up fixes on Linux is for my coding projects where I intentionally am looking for something to fuck around with. Anyone can choose whatever OS they like, I am just quite unhappy with the state of Windows with all its issues. Forcing Cortana to listen and fingerprint using microphone and browser history, forcing upgrades to windows 11 (which is slow AF), it breaks Windows to uninstall edge browser, few customization options and no custom theming with built-in tools, the search bar never giving the correct results and redirecting to bing, etc. Its so limited and the only thing it has going for it is that developers make software for it. I have spent so much time on windows fixing driver issues, internet buggyness, apps behaving erradically, etc. So Linux is an option but of course learning a new system takes time and research: we all had to learn how to use windows at some point.
It’s so funny, I’m not sure what youre trying to do in Linux but it sounds like you are using it wrong. If you’re struggling to game and are not used to like just know Linux gaming support is low that’s why you are running in to issues. If you are a programmer and running into issues I suggest you go back to college or invest in learning more fundamentals about the tools you are using. If you are just someone trying to use a computer to get on Google to check your bank account or look at memes I’m confused on to what issues you are running into
Look, I understand responding to criticism. But people can use other operating systems besides Linux without the entirety of the Linux fanbase calling them stupid losers and shitting on them. You weren’t really doing that here, but either way it’s not helpful to the community.
No but it’s silly and whiny, people listen to weird complaints like this and form opinions without trying the operating system. People who frustrate them selves trying to do unnecessary super user work put a bad face on the system. There are definitely difficult parts to Linux but unless youre trying to do super obscure shit you really won’t run in to issues. It’s like someone trying to drive a car and screaming “the blinker isn’t in the same spot as my last car, the gear shift is different then my last car why is it so bad? Hey Google why does my car look like shit after I spray painted it?” It’s annoying and weird. Linux does have a cult but so does windows that’s just as annoying it’s just not here on lemmy
ive had to work with the command line when windows broke as well, your just being naive
Seemy like you dont know how the cli actually works.
So if you ever have to touch the CLI (not sure when a normal user would need to), you complain you dont know the CLI instead of learning the tools you want to use?
Lots of stuff on Windows didnt work for me when i wanted advanced things… very intuitive to fix that, if it was even possible.
Every system has its fair share, but if you are unwilling to learn and understand your tools before using them, you might drill yourself in the hand. Windows is just a bit over-protective before you can do so.I’m not even using Linux, I never have before and I probably won’t (at least not in the foreseeable future) but my god, what are you talking about? That’s just mostly nonsense.
Ont-day eed-fay the oll-tray.
I’m honestly whelmed with how many straigh up facts they’re spittin’
you have to put in a sudo string to move files and folders instead of dragging and dropping like everything else
what distro are you talking about 💀
Also: Every community within the Linux world is toxic - according to other communities within the Linux world.
and look at the windows fanboys in my comments?
Fanboys are crazy on a whole other level.

My day job is in-house tech support in a 100% Windows environment. Trust me: neither is it intuitive for users, nor does it always do what you tell it to do …
But normal windows doesn’t really do what you tell it to do

hehe u are so angry
someone hurt u, little guy?
Stamets my dearest, us Linux users are like the Fremen; eyes devoid of white from our proximity to the computer melange. Every bit just as extremist. With the Steam Deck we have found our Lisan al-Gaib. This path is a dangerous one.

slackware users are fake
I see slackware. Im happy!
I like WebKit browsers for linux.
Is Epiphany any good yet? I have tested it a short while like one and a half year ago and found it to be rather lacking and have stuck to Firefox ever since.
It’s good but their book mark manger could use some help
IIRC it changed its name to the GNOME Web Browser, and it’s decent enough. It doesn’t have exact feature parity with Safari, but the rendering and web stuff is nice and efficient.
I LOVE LINUX PROPAGANDA I LOVE SEEING AN OPEN SOURCE OPERATING SYSTEM GET PUSHED TO EVERYONE!!
