Hey, hey, now.
Nobody on roll 20 can afford a real machete
I’ve found only fantastic 1000% perfect groups online. Only ever had issues irl
I’ve formed some of my best, and strongest friendships through online ttrpg play starting as strangers. But not quite randoms, which is an important distinction. I collected hundreds of applications to play, and went through every single one to hand select ones that had good vibes. I even video interviewed them.
Still playing almost ten years later with a few of those, and the ones who don’t still play with me still had multi year campaigns with.
This seems nuts on paper but bet it finds a lot of people frustrated by the same things.
Was it arduous?
Glad it worked out for you. Good advice.
I don’t know, doesn’t seem that nuts to me. I’m a GM and I reckon if I’m going to run games for years for people for free, I had better like them and know a little bit about them.
I wouldn’t say it was a fun task, but I wouldn’t go so far as arduous. I kinda like reading everyone’s answers and, if I’m being quite frank, I’m not above admitting that so many people trying to get into a game I run is a nice feeling.
The way people play and enjoy D&D varies so wildly, I don’t think just popping into a random game with random people would necessarily be fun 90% of the time.
Maybe I’m a Mony Haul type campaign enjoyer and everyone is running their super serious, extra dark and edgy medieval simulation. I would be bored out of my mind during all those 8 hour long fictional political debate sessions. I wanna hit things with various sticks and win fabulous prizes! 😩
If I had to choose I think I’d be top right pancake
How about yall?
If you had to choose one who’d you be?Bottom right.
Nice👌
Now we need 2 more party members🔪🧨 and then we can head into the dungeon⚔️🛡️
I’ll take top left, but I want to be a Tortle.
If I pick bottom left, am I the guy above or below the table?
Neither. You are the table. It’s a mimic!
Damn now I actually wanna make a mimic character
Yes.
Stamets, if you’re legit putting together an online D&D group I’d be super interested. I’ve never played but I vow to not be that guy in the group and to try my hardest.
I have no problem with new players provided you’re willing to learn, listen and be cooperative. It’s easy to fall into a bit of main character syndrome but as long as you’re willing to receive feedback then you are genuinely already going to be better than like… 60%, minimum, of other online players.
I’ve been fleshing out a world, nations, factions, gods, and various potential plotlines for the past year or so. Should be done in the next 1-4 weeks, likely sooner than later. If you’re actually interested (or if anyone is), just shoot me a message. The only thing that I actively require from my players is a DnD Beyond account, a Discord account, a sense of humor, a spark of imagination and a goal to both play your story and uplift others in theirs. I cannot guarantee that you’ll be able to play just by messaging, i’m going to end up interviewing people to an extent and judging vibes. Want to make sure everyone is chill and ready to get along with one another. But by all means, my messages are open.
Honestly they always are but no one ever messages me… Well outside of the occasional newbie who is trying to figure out Lemmy, sees my username a lot and goes “He probably knows how it works!” Which, fair. I do. Good person to ask lol
Shit, make sure you take good notes. Share that stuff with lemmy.
I’m too damn paranoid to join in a lemmy related game like that, but it does seem like it would be relatively easy to find a decent group here.
If you want to join in a game, I’m probably as safe as you’re gonna get. At least all things considered. I’ve got a reputation riding on it lol that and the fact that I am AGGRESSIVELY protective of my players because they’re also my friends. I don’t tolerate people being a dick but I’m not the dude to just attack someone. Chats are more productive. And I run session 0s, or just little hang out sessions, to see how everyone vibes.
Kind of interested, playing in two games but been having scheduling issues with one so may be in the market, and would love to play in something beyond a module. Despite having two games, only been playing a couple years, these are my 2nd and 3rd ever.
Definitely not a module. I’ve got a little voice thingy to like… “sell” the world or whatever that is a bit vague. At the time I was still planning a lot of stuff but a buddy wanted me to run a one-shot for him on his birthday so he could play instead of DMing for his group. So I came in as a guest DM. I made this really quickly and slapped it together but the type of vibe that I go for. The voice was also a single recording, normally not so… stuffy and ridiculous sounding. The writing was also slapdash because I had like 5 hours notice for the whole game so don’t sue me too much lol
Ha, I like it. Haven’t played a bard yet and been toying with a halfling creation bard idea, could fit.
Just finished playing a Creation Bard / Redemption Paladin. Creation Bards are fun as fuck
I’ve always wanted to try playing DND, but I don’t know anybody where I live since I moved five years ago, and I’m not an outgoing type of individual.
Check with your library.
On top of that board game shops tend to do game nights, and probably have a system for putting together groups.
Someone hasn’t returned the gaming group my library has for loans.
That kid is ready to join the Legion.
I’m 2 today.
Which one are you stamets.
The DM having to deal with all of them
#3 is pretty applicable to me today. Sometimes you gimp the furry and sometimes the furry gimps you…
I’ve never had success with randoms because all it takes is one person to really dampen the game, and the odds of that happening are just too high.
Which is a shame because I’ve ran into good players who just can’t find a group to click with.
Why not make a group with the good players?
So true, it burns. >_<
