For the past few years I have lived without an address and until recently a consistent form of income. Ask Me Anything
How does your lifestyle compare to that of a “hobo,” “tramp,” “vagabond,” etc.? Do you consider yourself part of any defined cultural movement of that sort, or are you just sort of doing your own thing?
Do you and your buddy arrive in town, get temporary dishwasher jobs, befriend locals and solve their personal problems, then leave town in your Corvette with background music?
how do you tune the rear suspension for optimal angle?
also where to practice without attracting the attention of cops?
Little bit of toe-in for grip just like racecars.
You don’t really do much to the rear setup for angle things. The track.
the closest track to me is a state over, sadly.
Yeah, that sucks. My local track is 40 minutes away.
I really don’t condone street shenanigans but obviously find a secluded area, keep your car quiet, and go late at night.
I’ve heard that giving the rear wheels a negative camber or ‘stanced’ look improves the drift by making it a little easier to break free in the back
You heard wrong.
Less grip means less control. Also, high camber means uneven wear which is just wasting tires.
If you need less grip due to low power just pick tires that are better suited for your power level and if you need even less grip just run higher pressures.Don’t let the stance bois lie to you about their setups. They’re just trying to tuck big wheels that dont fit for aesthetics, which is fine, but why lie about it?
Where to practice
Tokyo, duh
I wonder if you know
How they live in Tokyo
If you seen it, then you mean it
Then you know you have to go
“how do you tune the rear suspension for optimal angle?”
Idk I’ve never been good at maths
“Also where to practice without attracting the attention of cops?”
Practice what?
drifting, of course
Oh, we’re talking about different things. You’re talking about cars and I’m talking about the lifestyle.
i was playing witcha
“If you catch my drift”
don’t try to catch drift, you might end up hurting yourself badly. too much inertia
Wait… Are we talking about plate tectonics now?
I feel bad for your situation. Sorry if i’m only allowed one question but if not I have a couple?
-
Do you have a car? (I’ve tried sleeping in my car and it fucking sucked every time i did, no matter what)
-
What are your favourite/worst kind of places to spend nights?
-
Do you travel far away frequently?
-
Any cool facts about anything at all?
-
Voluntarily or involuntary?
Voluntarily. Having a place would cost a lot of money and if I made any money I would have to spend all of it on the place. This is just cheaper.
So, explain how.
Sleeping in a car or someone else’s house doesn’t have any rent. You don’t have to pay for things like electricity, gas or water if you don’t have a place of your own.
That’s not just a drifter. That’s a freeloader.
Free loading of who? How is a friend during you a favor free loading? What if I just like hanging out with you my friends?
A friend helping out in an emergency for a few days, weeks or mayyybe months is one thing. Systematically living on somebody else’s bill only to save your own expenses is something else.
You’re of course free to do what you want, but don’t be surprised if your friends get tired of you.
I’m not “Systematically living on somebody else’s bill” I just sleep over at my friend’s every now and then.
Ever try hammock camping?
How do you avoid being harassed by cops?
I don’t commit crime, Tyrone.
So you’re homeless but cops never bother you for sleeping in public?
I don’t sleep in public.
So not really a drifter?
Well, it depends on what you mean by “public”. I usually couch surf but if I get really desperate I sleep in a hostel or homeless shelter.
Lots of OCD trolls here, who will challenge your use of any word they think isn’t the perfect word. Just ignore them.
A drifter sleeps at their friends’ couches, not on the street, that’s called homeless.
What does the drifter lifestyle consist of?
An intricate knowledge of Wi-fi hotspots, meeting a lot of new and interesting people, always sleeping somewhere new, a lot of hotels and restaurants and a lot of doing odd jobs for money.
Are you on TaskRabbit?
Doesn’t sound that different to my life.
In what part(s) of the world do you live?
Pennsylvania, America
East or West? How close are you to the cities? Not trying to dox you or anything. I’m in PA as well. If I was in your situation I don’t think I would stay in the state.
I live East pretty close to the cities. I go there every now and then but I make sure I never stay long.
“If I was in your situation I don’t think I would stay in the state.”
I see where you’re coming from. It’s wild out here.
This sounds like a Delco situation
At what age would you say it would become unsustainable. Mainly thinking failing health.
I would say once you are too old and can’t take of yourself so about 70.
Got any good recipes?
I work at Berger King so I know plenty but if your on the road I would say that tortilla + tomato puree + cheese + 5 mins in the microwave = great easy meal.
Yo take a flour tortilla, spread nutella all over one side of it, roll it up and cut it in half.
Hell yeah, what about like trail mix style snacks?
They go well with oatmeal and honey.
What was it like being on Portal and working with Dave?
Lol, wat?
Portal was a show on TechTV mixing live action with macinema exclusively using popular MMORPGs of the time. One of the recurring video game heroes of the show was The Drifter. The main, actual human character, was Dave.

I’m a female with plenty of money issues who doesn’t have a trust fund but I do have to worry about rape.

Yeah pretty much this and some odd jobs here and there.
I dunno why the mod removed my comment, other than being a pearl-clutching morbidly obese basement troglodyte prude.
All the power to you, girl. Live your life, and enjoy all you can that’s freely offered to you. And i know you are grateful for it because you sound like a well-rounded good person, so no need to justify your life to anyone here. I envy you and your beautiful freedom. I know what I’m about to say is a cliché Walmart shelf item, but you indeed are the epitome of live, laugh and love.
I’ve traveled places in fear and i’m a dude. Hell, i’m genuinely scared to leave my house at night lmao
