Carney's first visit to the White House since his election comes as the U.S.-Canada trade relationship has been upended as a result of Trump's tariffs.
They can flip a switch and large parts of northern US loses power, and it’s not like we can just flip the switch back, because the switch is in Canada.
Fucking flip it, stop normalizing trump and start treating him like he treats people, he’d have flipped the switch and broken it off already if the situation was reversed.
I say this as an American; other countries need to stop protecting us from our bad decisions or as a country we’ll keep making bad decisions. There has to be consequences
I don’t think Canada wants to hurt so many innocent people because Trump runs his mouth.
Cutting electricity doesn’t only mean it’s stopping kids from playing Fortnite or something. It also means cutting it from infrastructure, hospitals, hospices and many other healthcare facilities, water pumping and treatment, traffic control and so on. Trump won’t suffer because any of that happening, random people will.
Sure some people may have voted for Trump but a whole lot didn’t. They don’t deserve that.
Also depending on where in the north it is, perhaps people who voted against this. Punishing new York for the sins of Pennsylvania seems counter productive.
I wasn’t entirely aware, so thank you. I was just using NY as an example. It could have been Maine, Vermont, or Washington. And maybe for each of them it would be the redder area. I wasn’t as aware as I should have been. Looking it up I think it was a good guess, because it is new York. However it’s Vermont too. A cursory glance says it’s not Maine though.
Can we stop pushing this lie. 43 percent of the people who voted in new York voted for Trump. Then there are the people who couldn’t be bothered to vote.
You’re right. It’s part of why we continue to play this game instead of pulling the bandaid off. Our reality is built around so many damn Catch-22s that we’re paralyzed to make rational choices anymore.

If that’s true, that’s backwards logic.
Because Trump is hurting a lot more people, and while unlikely if his voters feel the pain they will realize it’s not working. Congress can hold trump accountable, but they won’t until well into the “find out” phase.
So our traditional allies shielding the American people from our own government may seem like the ethical move, but only if focused on today and ignoring the future…
Which is how we ended up here.
Long term, America needs consequences yesterday, but we’ll have to settle for today
Quick edit:
Sure some people may have voted for Trump but a whole lot didn’t. They don’t deserve that.
As close as majorities are, a handful of seats getting pressured is all it would take. You think there ain’t a single red district getting their power from Canada?
We literally need their energy…

It’s a lot of upstate (redder) NY that would lose power. But it’s still not going to hurt Trump enough to justify.

You think Montana is a deep blue area?

It really doesn’t take many people to switch to take congress back, but if we never pressure them, they’ll never fold.
No, I know we do.
I’m say they should flip the switch. Call our bluff. I really do mean it. Because it is a bluff.
