I’m unsure what is going wrong and not having any luck finding a command or file I can tail to figure out why it’s having so many problems finishing. Last weekend I tried just installing mint to some unused space on a drive but that seemed to get stuck in the same place. This weekend I’m using the “install alongside windows” option in the installer with the same behavior.
This is being installed from a USB drive into an nvme SSD and I’m really lost s to why it would be like this after more than an hour. Any advice on how to figure out why it gets stuck is appreciated. Hoping to transfer some files over after this is done and then reevaluate if I want/need the windows partition.
I had issues with mints install a while back. Turns out that it was my flash drive failing during the install. I used a newer one with bigger capacity and it worked fine. Not sure if tried a different USB but it’s worth a shot.
EDIT: based on your comments you probably have a different issue. But this might help someone else.
Reflash installation media. Also check that hash is correct.
I would redownload and reflash the OS on my USB to make sure there isn’t a problem with the installation media causing hang ups.
Maybe check the hash is correct. I’ve downloaded Mint from their various official mirror sites and have gotten one that had an incorrect hash, which caused issues.
Get a terminal by hitting Ctrl+Alt+F1, login with the Ubuntu user and a blank password, then look in the installer log:
tail -f /var/log/installer/debug
Should tell you where you’re getting stuck.
Sadly there weren’t any good logs in the installer debug logs, but the syslog had a good lead to follow up on
This did get me on an interesting path. Seems like ubiquity is getting blocked from running which is stalling the installer. Going to see if I can download a newer iso and if that fixes the issue
Still running into issues, but I think this link might be a good next step. Commenting with the link now before I restart the live environment https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=2523101&hilit=INFO%3A+task+ubiquity+blocked#p2523101. It seems to indicate that multiple people are having this issue with linux mint 22 and that it might be related to graphics device differences/issues and several people said that they were able to install successfully after rebooting and selecting the compatibility mode setting when booting the live environment. Going to give that a shot and see if it resolve the kernel messages in syslog indicating that ubuitity has been blocked from starting for XYZ seconds that get printed out periodically.
So compatibility mode did work and now I’m just upset with how difficult it is to paste an image into discord but that seems like another issue for a different thread
I had an issue with installing mint. Never figured it out. Got the older LTS and it worked fine though. Maybe try a different version?
I assume you filled in those fields before clicking continue.
Does the installer have a log? Sometimes it’s just on one of the text terminals.
