I mean, I’ve experienced something similar at work, except not automated.

And the amount of talking was literally just us asking each other for help. For example to help with moving a loaded pallet using a pallet jack as this was in a freezer, and the floor had frost on it (I alone would just “walk” in the same spot trying to pull or push it).
“The client has complained they heard talking, so please be quiet.” (the client being a supermarket chain, or in this case, their representative)
Disregarding the manager could result in a negative point. The negative point would reduce you to minimum wage for that day.

This was in the storage area of a supermarket. A closed supermarket. It couldn’t bother a single soul.

Reminds me of Buying Time, a far-future dystopia comic based around the idea that one needs to spend social credits in order to talk to people (I think for a certain length of time). Those who are credit poor are effectively shut out of society.

and that was, in turn, based on a patent filed by mcdonalds for smart tvs to show ads you had to interact with. “say ‘mcdonalds’ to continue watching”.

idk if that was technically part of it but the pictures in the application definitely had a person jump up and scream the name.

actually I’ll go look it up

Edit: huh, it’s not a mcdonalds patent at all, it’s filed by sony: https://patents.google.com/patent/US8246454B2/en

but the picture definitely says mcdonalds

I was in a company town hall meeting where the C-level executives were making announcements and circle jerking each other with compliments on their success. At one point, the CEO was remarking how innovative they were pivoting the software from a standalone to a SaaS. Truly enlightened times to have such visionaries…

I mean you could get yourselves some of those regulations the Europeans seem to like to make this illegal. But that would be communism so you won’t.

There’s only one thing worse the out of control capitalism, and that’s regulated and fair capitalism.

I mean, quality of life has gone up almost everywhere in the world (warzones being the exception ofcourse). The issue is just that the class divide is also going up everywhere.

If the quality of life of poor people is 1% better while for rich people it’s 100000% better, then we still need to get some guillotines out in the streets

Just because it’s “better” doesn’t mean it’s fair or that it shouldn’t be orders of magnitude better

If you live in a very privileged country then maybe that is your experience. The rest of the world however has only barely started catching up in terms of food security. None the less the situation is soooo much better than it was 30 years ago. Its still not good by any means, but to say that it hasnt gone up is absurd.

The day an automated system reduces my pay for socializing all of 3 seconds to myself is the day I begin welding steel plates to a bulldozer and go for a drive through upper mansgemt offices.

unfortunately you won’t see this. they don’t make these changes abruptly. they come very slowly and gradually that by the time the prediction has come true you won’t even be in the workforce, and those who are won’t be old enough to remember a time where your payment didn’t get docked for sighing a little too loud because it’s technically a social signal so you engaged in unapproved socializing on company hours.

Nah you will be kept poor enough to not be able to rebel and rich enough to have something (to lose) and be able to participate in capitalism.

Capitalism needs workers to exploit, even once all the robots are built. In the end it’s people that have to do the labor and that must pay the billionaires next space shuttle
