As a guy with a narcissistic mother, yeah, something about the idea of having a badass GF who’d give her a talking to… oof.
I mean maybe problematic cuz she’s a fascist, wish I could get a commie version of this.
I loved that entire scene, beginning to end. I had to give it a rewatch after it first ended just to enjoy the pacing of it all again. As pathetic of a character as Cyril is, and as banal and evil as Dedra is, it’s amazing how they manage to make you root for them, even if just briefly, against an abusive narcissist. Everybody likes to see a bully get put in their place, and it’s just so human to want to see a couple lift each other up and support one another.
Dating my wife is what got me to realize my mother is abusive. Outside perspective + genuine care for a person’s well-being is a powerful combination. I wish the same for you, except within the context of your life, not saying anything about your mother
My sister had the same experience of marrying a man who actually loved her and realizing our parents had a horribly toxic relationship.
Sadly I think I enjoy being a bachelor to much. Or maybe not sadly, I like my privacy and independence too much to share a bed and bathroom with someone my whole life.
I’ll let you in on a secret: A very large percentage of married couples don’t sleep in the same bed. I know a number of guys on my current job site who don’t even sleep in the same room “ah she says i fuckin snore but I’m glad cuz now i don’t get in shit for smelling like beer”
Anyway you do you. Doesn’t have to be a lover to be a special person who helps smol beans who are scared of our moms like us. I would do it if i was able to
Also, it can come and go. Sometimes one partner is more sensitive to snoring, or something along those lines. Only issue is it can lead to reduced intimacy, but a healthy relationship can work around/through it. Just like anything in relationships, communication is key.
