Need to let loose a primal scream without collecting footnotes first? Have a sneer percolating in your system but not enough time/energy to make a whole post about it? Go forth and be mid: Welcome to the Stubsack, your first port of call for learning fresh Awful youāll near-instantly regret.
Any awful.systems sub may be subsneered in this subthread, techtakes or no.
If your sneer seems higher quality than you thought, feel free to cutānāpaste it into its own post ā thereās no quota for posting and the bar really isnāt that high.
The post Xitter web has spawned soo many āesotericā right wing freaks, but thereās no appropriate sneer-space for them. Iām talking redscare-ish, reality challenged āculture criticsā who write about everything but understand nothing. Iām talking about reply-guys who make the same 6 tweets about the same 3 subjects. Theyāre inescapable at this point, yet I donāt see them mocked (as much as they should be)
Like, there was one dude a while back who insisted that women couldnāt be surgeons because they didnāt believe in the moon or in stars? I think each and every one of these guys is uniquely fucked up and if I canāt escape them, I would love to sneer at them.
(Credit and/or blame to David Gerard for starting thisā¦)
Ed Zitron having a very good day today:
She Licking my County till I back away is this anything?
How much of this is the AI bubble collapsing vs. Ohiophobia
Would you invest in commercial real estate, knowing there was a non-zero chance your tenants might come in one day to discover a thoroughly intoxicated JD Vance in a compromising position with the break-room furniture?
So many of the responses pointing out how bad this is for the local communities in Licking County (lol), but I feel like this has to be a case where the bezzle is collapsing more than a decision causing new harm, right? The bubble wasnāt sustainable and those jobs were unlikely to manifest past the initial construction, especially since data centers arenāt exactly labor-intensive to run.
That doesnāt mean it doesnāt hurt for those communities, especially in the midst of the economic ruin left in the wake of Hurricane Tarrif, but I feel like thereās an important lesson being lost here.
itās also such a weird position for critique to take, imo; DCs donāt really do much in the way of Local Job Generation, and Iād fucking bet that each of these locations also got selected because of favourable gladhanding credits (tax incentives, power incentives, etc)
I suppose āall the ${whatever business} that got bought out and flattened (for buildout space) is still goneā is maybe one harm, but againā¦ these things donāt get built on high streets
