Hoping this can be a way to make people think more critically about their choice for US President, maybe even bring opposing sides together to fix the problems we ALL face.

So if you support Trump try to list 3 things you dislike about him and 3 things you like about Harris. Please keep answers serious. Plenty of other places on Lemmy for you to post snappy putdowns.

My answers in a reply.

Trump is a piece of shit with no redeeming qualities and so are his followers. End of discussion.

Yup, he even undermined the few things that were not complete trainwrecks under his watch. Someone actually posted he got the vaccine done quickly which is both wrong (he didn’t have jack shit to do with it) but him perpetuating the lie that covid was a hoax led to people refusing the vaccine!

He has zero redeeming qualities. Not a single one.

Yea, I’d misread this question initially as “List three good and bad things about your candidate” I can list three bad things about Harris, sure - I still voted for her and urge everyone else to do so…

But three good things about Trump? The only one I’ve got is that he’s so fucking old and unhealthy that he should kick the bucket soon (this isn’t me advocating for violently ending his life though).

The best part about Trump is he’s brought out into the light what fucking horrible piece of shit Republicans are (and have been for decades) for the entire world to see. Our allies are absolutely watching very closely to what’s happening over here. We need to show them we can clean up our own fucking mess.

Yeah exactly, this is why “fair and balanced” is horseshit. If the candidates were respectable people then sure. When one is openly racist, misogynistic, and constantly lies they lost the privilege of deserving fair and balanced journalism. they don’t deserve our attention because they’ve shown (tens of thousands of times now) that they can’t be trusted.

So no, 3 positives and 3 negatives isn’t fair when for one candidate it’d be picking for a good mix of each and the other 3 negatives would be hiding thousands of other (I’ll say it) atrocities.

Harris has a weird laugh. Trump has been racist towards Hispanics/latin americans since day one, blaming them for everything from inflation to saying they they are taking over neighborhoods

Doesn’t come off as even does it

It isn’t possible when one candidate has zero redeeming qualities. Trump accomplished nothing other then undermining democracy, undermining trust in science, and stoking xenophobia. He didn’t even accidentally do something right.

He didn’t even accidentally do something right.

Despite his best efforts, he did actually leave office. That was the best thing he did his whole presidency.

No, he was removed from office. That isn’t something he did, that was something that was done to him because he lost an election.

The bar of his presidential accomplishments was… Subterranean, so doing the bare minimum that was expected seemed like a major accomplishment.

I live in a blue county of a very red state, so I’m constantly surrounded by conservative nut jobs. It was a difficult decade plus of listening to all of the Obama hate then Trump praising. Bizzarro world was in full effect.

Apologies if I seem at all to be praising His Cheetoship, I wish nothing for him but a very long life in a very small cell, and hopefully the media can recover some sense of integrity.

Trying to overthrow the election and then not getting the military involved is not the bare minimum.

It wasn’t easy but I found at least three small things I do appreciate about him. I think painting him as the antichrist is as helpful as declaring him as the second coming of Christ. Maybe it’s too soon but some kind of outreach needs to occur or the desperation on each side will only increase.

He’s genuinely himself. Even if he contradicts himself I think it all comes from his own head and he’s not taking the standard approach of rehearsing speeches ad nauseum and censoring himself because of what some focus group said.

That is stupid when the person being themselves is a piece of shit. Do you think Hitler being his genuine self is a positive?

He did come out in support of banning bump stocks.

He was also in favor of gun proliferation and he contradicted his opposition to bump stocks because his genuine self is trying to play both sides.

Despite personal views on COVID he did generally support the emergency actions necessary in a pandemic scenario.

He also constantly undermined them by saying covid was a hoax and telling people they didn’t need to wear masks or be vaccinated.

Your three things are all stupid and you are praising him for being a terrible person.

Maybe it’s a doomed experiment but I think it’s possible to praise an act but not praise the actor. I’m hoping small concessions can lead to common ground.

I’ll actually amend my first bullet though since I believe Trump is a genuine liar (which is contradictory) and say instead I applaud that he committed us to leaving Afghanistan.

Harris seems serious about restoring Roe.

Harris appears to be receptive of progressive pressure on some topics.

    Harris won’t directly undermine democracy.

Harris is unlikely to take the kind of drastic actions climate change now demands.

Harris is opposed to the kind of election reform that we need.

It’s unlikely we’ll see a significant effort at wealth redistribution under Harris.

Honestly having trouble thinking of things I don’t like about Claudia De La Cruz. About Kamala Harris I guess I would say that I like that she’s Jamaican American (even if I don’t like the way she acknowledged it), I think her skin looks nice usually, and she didn’t pick Shapiro as her running mate.

Okay, I thought about it and what I don’t like about about De La Cruz’s campaign is that there’s no explicit support for nuclear power nor the hydrogen economy and they’re not on every state ballot.

Appreciate you digging deep to find something critical to say about De La Cruz. I think it’s more harmful than helpful to claim your candidate is flawless. Let’s remind each other we’re all human, nobody is perfect, and nobody can perfectly represent our viewpoints.

Just looking at a short list of her stances I’m definitely most in supportive of her plan to cut off aid to Israel, at least short term until Bibi steps aside.

    Harris dislikes:

Lack of action against a genocide we are funding

    Changes her stance a lot

Was chosen as VP based partially on gender by Biden

    Trump likes:

Extremely fucking funny for the wrong reasons

I like his views on promoting legal immigration

He’s right about mainstream media having agendas, especially after Bernie

I dont support either of them so ill say 3 things i like about both.

    Harris:

“You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?”

    “Do not come”

Shes ok on abortion i guess.

    Trump:

He is undeniably hilarious at times. If he is president at least the content will be good. The dance parties he has been doing lately are cool too. I hope he does them in the white house and makes foreign leaders listen to YMCA, and Ave Maria.

He’s so incompetent that he may actually be good for the world by damaging Americas Empire.

Actually i kinda think he doesnt wanna be president and is just doing it to not go to jail so if he wins he might just fuck off and play golf again which if he is too lazy to actually do anything would make him materially better than harris since while his policies are worse hers are still bad. So if he just doesnt do anything really then id prefer him to her. Only like a 50/50 chance tho imo that he does that.

As a kiwi, I’m sorry you guys only have a binary choice.

My 2 cents without really knowing much: much:

Harris- only good by comparison Won’t make the major changes necessary not very funny

Trump- Orange Hilarious Has some good ideas on bringing jobs back

-Trump was the closest man to be able to get peace in the Middle East (Abraham accords)

-Trump was right in being tougher on China

-Trump managed to get the vaccine done quickly

-Trump tried to convince everyone covid was a hoax, and the vaccine getting done so fast was a miracle

    • he buddied up to basically every single autocracy, and probably received a ton of bribes via stays at his hotels

-He’s a lying cheating bastard whose idiocy culminated on January 6th

    • More baby steps to fixing healthcare. It needs an overhaul, not amending.
