So AEW is coming to my town, and I want to go. One problem. Ticketmaster.
In order to sign up for an account, you need to create an account. In order to create an account, you need a phone number. They will not accept my voip phone number, which is what I use.
Ticketmaster says that I need to go out and buy a cell phone, AND sign up for a monthly plan. Just to buy tickets.
Money is in my account. I can pay for my tickets right now. I’ve been trying since yesterday when they went on sale.
But I can’t create an account, because of a lack of a cell phone number.
The box office won’t be open until october 18. Show is on October 30th.
So I’m sure all the good seats will be gone by then.
Guess I’m not going to a show I’ve wanted to go to for 2 years. I couldn’t go last year because I was dealing with cancer, and had $0 income.
the wild thing is pearl jam tried to warn everyone back in the day and they received such backlash.
that’s so terrible though i wish there was a way to get tickets without them :(
And see ticketmaster isn’t even the one who loses out in this scenario.
I lose out the most, but also AEW loses out too. I won’t be there to buy merch. I hear their attendance figures are low. Well at least 1 person has the money, but can’t go. Who knows how many other less vocal people this has happened to in various other cities.
So I lose, AEW loses, and ticketmaster won’t care. Because I’m 1 person, and they’ll go on without me.
So that’s what Jeremy was speaking about!
The convenience we required is now mandatory.
Man, when I was a teen, I could walk into any grocery store, and drug store and buy tickets.
You need a smart phone now too because I don’t think physical tickets are a thing anymore
This venue I can get physical tickets. If their box office were open, I could buy one right now…but they’ve closed their box office until Oct 18th, as that’s their next event.
I found this strange because paper tickets would be desired as souvenirs. I tape them to my stereo cabinet, when I actually get one.
I don’t have anything to add. Just trying to show some moral support
Don’t all tickets get bought by the resellers like StubHub nowadays anyway? I don’t think they suck as much as Ticketmaster.
After you said this, I looked into it. From basic internet search, I see people talking about shows that aren’t this one saying they needed a ticketmaster account to transfer it to.
I’m going to call them in a bit to verify, but I’m not expecting much.
As somebody who doesn’t go to shows like this for various reasons, what is stopping the fans from banding together and refusing to go to shows that are hosted by this POS company? Seems like all it would take is a bit of cooperation between people who supposedly appreciate the same things.
Based on AEW attendance numbers, I think that’s already been happening for the past year.
2 years ago I went to AEW and this same building had 8K people in the building. This upcoming show has only 25% of the building on sale. And I don’t mean it’s 75% sold out. I mean it’s like…nobody is buying a ticket, so they’ve tarped off 75% of the building.

That’s funny. I think you fail to realize how big Ticketmaster is. They own most of the venues these shows sell tickets for, so… it’s a much bigger problem and is going to require government intervention.
Use a friend’s or family member’s number. Problem solved.
And then when it comes time to enter the venue, I need their cell phone.
I don’t think so. It’s been a while for me, but they emailed me a PDFs of the tickets. They pushed HARD for me to download their apps but I pushed harder that I won’t, so the tickets were pdf qr codes. Also, they accepted my Google number, even though they said no VoIP.
Edit: also, that was the last time I bought tickets from them. 100% markup for “fees”. Fuck. That. And fuck. Them.
No, you don’t. Nobody is checking that the mobile number matches the number used to book, just that you have the ticket. It’s not uncommon for one person to buy a number of tickets at once for their friends then send the tickets on as an email or screenshot. Every one of the scores of gigs I’ve been to the past 5 years my mate buys the tickets and sends it on to me. You can have it on your phone or print it if you wish.
Can you buy physical tickets at the venue directly? Not every arena does this, and you usually have to wait until the day of the event, but it’s often cheaper than Ticketmaster’s bullshit.
Yes. As stated elsewhere in the replies I can do that, but I have to wait until Oct 18th for their box office to be open. And the show is Oct 30th.
Ah, I see that now. That’s what I get for replying to the thread before reading the comments.
Also, yes, fuck Ticketmaster, preferably with some sort of coarse object.
They, uh… might like it…
