From my understanding purely based on watching https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCV5vCi3jPJdURZwAOO_FNfQ (watch his series on geneticly modifying hinself to cure lactose intolerance) it seems modifying many cells isn’t much more complicated than modifying a few.
I’m sure it’s a lot easier to modify a handful of cells and let them replicate than it is to modify millions of cells…
It was a terrible thing to do, but I get it.
