if you’re arguing that violence is a poor way by which to shape a society, preach that to the police. it’s literally what they do for a living.

colin@lemmy.uninsane.orgto Seattle@lemmy.world•Pro-LGBTQ protesters stuck outside barricades as Seattle officials let anti-trans rally take over City HallEnglish4·2 months agoJonathan Choe, the far-right broadcaster (“I’m going live for Newsmax and I have to deal with this shit too?” I heard him complain), posted a video of himself clubbing a protester who touched him. The protester was arrested; Choe was not.
wish there was a video link for that. i found this, which i think is a dubbed version of what Erica’s referencing.
ngl i feel safer digging through CDs while driving than digging through a music library on some phone touchscreen. probably if i learned to use voice controls i’d feel better about the phone but i’m at that age where i’m comfortable enough with my ways that i’d rather not have to change them.
colin@lemmy.uninsane.orgto Hardware@lemmy.ml•3D X-DRAM aims for 10x capacity of today's memory — NEO Semiconductor's memory has up to 512 Gb per moduleEnglish3·2 months agothey probably meant 512 Gb per IC, not per DIMM (which usually has 8-9 DRAM chips).
you’re right about that last part though.
colin@lemmy.uninsane.orgOPto Animemes@ani.social•I trained for centuries to reach this stateEnglish41·3 months agoi think “autistic” would be perfect, as there’s a reasonable case that Frieren is neurodivergent (at least by human standards).
anyway @jerkface@lemmy.ca, i will tag my posts more once Lemmy has better tagging. right now at the post-level it’s just NSFW or not NSFW, and the sidebar’s pretty clear IMO on where that line’s to be drawn. at the comment level, there’s only block-level spoilers, with no way to spoiler individual words. my honest advice if it bothers you is to get in contact with the devs and discuss better features around that. this isn’t meant as a dismissal: the nice thing about stuff like Lemmy v.s. reddit is that you actually can speak with the devs just by searching the software on GitHub and then joining the chatroom(s) linked from the readme.
colin@lemmy.uninsane.orgto Linux Phones@lemmy.ml•What are people usong as thei music player app nowadays?English2·4 months agoi keep my music organized on-disk so that each song is placed at
<artist>/<album>/<track-number>-<title>.flac
. then i just use any file browser (e.g. rofi, or portfolio) to navigate it, and when i select a song it opens inmpv
. i installed theplaylistmanager
mpv script so that when i open any song, mpv queues everything else in that folder (so if i open track 01, the default behavior is gapless playback of the whole album). i also installed theuosc
script, which provides a UI that’s much friendlier than the default IMO.i find i prefer configuring just one media player and then using that for everything (music, audiobooks, videos, podcasts, etc). then for example when i decide i want to cast music to my TV, i only have to solve that once, and not separately for casting youtube, local videos, etc.
colin@lemmy.uninsane.orgto Hardware@lemmy.ml•Why are we OK with thick folding phones, but not with thick no-folds?English2·9 months agoWhy are we OK with thick folding phones, but not with thick no-folds?
i think by “we” you mean the manufacturers? AFAICT they just gave away the game: the push for thin phones was more from the supply side than the demand side. not saying people don’t generally prefer thin phones – just that the preference is probably weaker than has been made out to be.
that said, i think it’s more fair to compare things like cubic volume and weight than just the thinness. a 1/2" thick full-size phone would be uncomfortable in my pocket, whereas a 1/2" thick wallet-sized phone might actually be more comfortable than a traditional smartphone.

colin@lemmy.uninsane.orgto Seattle@lemmy.world•Like so many unprovoked stranger homicides and assaults, this one was clearly rooted in severe, untreated mental illnessEnglish1·9 months agoIn August, the man allegedly pulled Dalton from her car, which struck and killed her as her assailant drove away.
i’m having trouble visualizing what happened here. she was pulled out of her car, and then her car rolled over her? but it only rolled her over after the assailant had returned to his own car and was driving away?
i’m not trying to be a skeptic: i’m just confused what actually happened.
Acchi Kocchi. just two oblivious kids crushing on each other in that “it’s obvious to everyone except them” sort of way. format wise it’s skit based, almost like if Lucky Star had been written to be more wholesome and less crude.
btw, i’d also appreciate recs from any other Acchi Kocchi enjoyers in the thread 😉
colin@lemmy.uninsane.orgto Hardware@lemmy.ml•Introducing Orion, Our First True Augmented Reality GlassesEnglish6·10 months agoOrion won’t make its way into the hands of consumers
not for you though (unless you’re a Meta employee).
but yeah good hardware is good hardware and if i could just use it as a display for any other device i have i would totally use it around the home: following a recipe without having to shuffle my phone and the ingredients; running a lengthy command over ssh and doing chores while i wait, without having to check my phone every couple of minutes to see when it’s done…
those things all rely on the software though. will they open it up as a dumb wireless display/terminal, or not? if they don’t, it’s kinda dead to me no matter how great the hardware is…
i mean everything here is just people dunking on other people dunking on other people in the most cringe way. maybe y’all get it and are just operating on a higher level, but i can’t tell. Poe’s law breaks my brain. but GP gets it, i can tell that.
lick behind the knee… goddammit, i need to know

is a “system”, but if so i’d love the equivalent of this blog post showing how to use (or fix) the wasi32 system!
“Spoiler effect” is so dumb. like oh, i’m the bad guy for voting for the candidate that you agree is better than the one you voted for??
give me a break. i’m literally not the one to blame for that.
allegedly, Gerber had trouble entering regions where the literacy rate is low because in such places consumers identify food products based on the imagery on the packaging, or the contents itself if the packaging is clear. in Gerber’s case, you have a jar of unidentifiable mush, with the image of a (likely foreign-looking) baby. conclusion: what’s in the jar?
dunno if that’s folklore or real. but the Wendy thing is just that they’re always doing edgy stuff on their socials. they know how to spot an innuendo, because that’s what they do.
i’ve never seen this many airplanes in one thread before
honestly i never would have noticed it had i not been primed by the question.
as for marketing, there’s a lot of inconsistency. you’ve got the Gerbers and Tony the Tigers of the world, completely blind to how things might be misinterpreted, and you’ve got the Wendy’s of the world, who 100% know what they’re doing. Venom? dunno enough to place them in one camp or the other.
how tf do y’all keep up with this lore
