Open source and proprietary software development have very different goals. Open source is generally about making software that’s useful. Proprietary software’s goal is to make money by any means necessary. Viewing it from that angle, open source devs and the community are more motivated to keep an eye out for backdoors. While proprietary software, they won’t give a fuck until something affects their bottom line. Just because of that, I feel safer using open source software in general.

  • I’ll also throw in my vote for Bazzite. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it in terms of its default included packages and configurations for gaming. It sounds like you may not be advanced enough to mess with settings to make gaming run smoothly, so bazzite would do all of that for you. They have a KDE version. And it is what’s called an “immutable” distro where the main systems files can’t be modified easily by the user. That will make it safer to those who aren’t sure of what they’re doing. You can also easily set it up to run Big Picture Mode by default, so if you decide to use that pc more like console connected to a tv, bazzite would be great for that. Like others have pointed out, Bazzite has good support for nvidia cards out of the box, and that’s a key feature to note. Bazzite is kinda like an unofficial version of Steam OS that’s ready for widespread use and supports a lot of hardware. They’re doing what Steam is not ready to do yet.

  • I was driving home from LA with a friend. While on the freeway, in the middle of nowhere, and no cars near us, we hear a noise like a hand knocking on the driver side backseat window. There was only the two of us sitting in the front, and there was nothing in the back seats. We confirmed with each other that we both heard the noise, and that it was strange. I was very curious, and it was daytime, so I pulled over to the side to check things out. Nothing. Even a highway patrol officer stop by to check up on us. (Don’t worry, we didn’t get shot, even though we were non-white, it was a less divided time back then).

To this day, I cannot even imagine what could have made that knocking sound on the window. 😬

Agree. Could be anything. Just do something. We underestimate our mind body connection. It’s probably more likely that we developed complicated thought ability by doing more and more complicated physical activity than the other way around.
