  • I have ADHD and cycle through phases of hyper fixation pretty quickly. The algorithm you’re describing might be built for people like me (sorry!).

I find that my algorithm tends to recommend videos based almost exclusively on content from about 3 of my most recent fixations. I can usually change it up pretty quickly though. I think the trick is having a fairly robust set of playlists that I revert to whenever the algorithm fails me. This might provide some more insight to help train the algorithm, though it probably depends on a bunch of other factors.

Whenever showing me content similar to my most recent views doesn’t work, the algorithm usually just defaults to showing me cat videos. Which I’m pretty pleased with, cat videos are easily the best thing on that site.

  • They think they’re the smartest people in the room for recognizing an obvious political stunt when they’re actually dumb as fuck for thinking it’ll work.

If they can see it, everyone else can too, including the undecided conservatives they’re trying to persuade. The people who vote for presidential candidates based solely on how racist they are to migrants are still going to vote trump and they’ll love however trump chooses to respond. Biden is just throwing away immigrant votes and setting himself up to be dunked on because he’s a white reactionary who wants other white reactionaries to love him.

Not to mention how obviously inhumane it is. It’s not that leftists are too stupid to understand what biden is trying to do, they just oppose it because they have principles and a basic understanding of reality.

  • I’m a long time lurker and kinda have a similar anxiety, tbh. Whenever I think I have an insightful or funny comment, someone has already made exactly the same point but better. Hexbear’s posters are just too powerful lol.

I think you’re right that it’s a form of digital social anxiety. I don’t know if this will help you at all but I’ve personally found that trying to let go of my own expectations and just appreciate that this community exists at all makes it much easier to interact with.

I love your dog btw, please give them lots of pets!

  • I don’t think leftists think weight is exactly equivalent to class, race, gender or sexuality in terms of systemic oppression. That doesn’t mean that people don’t experience weight discrimination or fatphobia.

In the west, the working class is less likely to be able to afford nutritious food than the upper class. Food deserts are most common in impoverished communities and this is absolutely by design. It’s also worth mentioning that people can be both fat and malnourished. Malnutrition isn’t just caused by the quantity of food people eat, it can also be caused by a lack of quality. In the US in particular, many fat people are both poor and malnourished; there really isn’t a contradiction here.

Cooking your own meals and building an effective exercise routine can be time consuming. People who need to sell their labour to survive generally have less free time to spend on these kinds of tasks. Fatphobia is an issue that is more likely to impact the working class and marginalized communities, at least in the west.

There’s also a LOT of intersection between racial discrimination, fetishization and body shaming. The horrific objectification and exploitation of Saartjie Baartman is an (extreme) example of this but it isn’t difficult to find similar instances of this kind of hypersexualization and abuse directed towards minority women who don’t fit into a specific eurocentric idea of health or beauty. This also overlaps pretty heavily with medical discrimination, which Othello already mentioned.
