I’d like to grow my hair out more when the T starts to kick in. I’ve had my hair cut as short as can be without looking like a buzz cut. I generally pass well with this haircut.

Problem is, I’m not passionate about the cut. It’s fine I guess but I don’t feel attractive or self expressive with it. Definitely would rather pass than have a haircut I love, but there’ll come a time where I can experiment more without risking my passing. I’ve got nice, wavy hair and it seems like it’s going to waste being so short.

Any of you fellas have suggestions for long-ish haircuts/styles that are still very masculine? I’ve always been captivated by 60/70s men’s fashion, hair included, but I’m open to other things too.

I’m a cis guy with fairly long hair, and to be honest my haircare is checking that it still exists in the morning. Men’s combo shampoo/conditioner also helps with getting your hair to be mostly management free

Edit: I know the answer I gave doesn’t seem the most relevant to your question, but I think the best way to rock long hair as a guy is to kinda just let your hair do it’s thing and to use men’s hair products

Hey same here! I wouldn’t be able to speak on any nuances since I am cis, but imo if you feel like you pass with short hair then that shouldn’t change with long hair. I have a fairly femme face shape and struggle growing facial hair, but I’ve never been misidentified, even from the back by total strangers. The way you carry yourself is probably most important when it comes to appearing masc. Shoulders up, chest out, etc that I’m sure you’ve heard a dozen times. An air of confidence in yourself is what’s important, which will naturally lead to shoulders up and chest out. You’re valid, you’re a man, and no one or no intrusive thought will ever change that, regardless of your appearance.

I like the feathered kinda look from the 80’s personally, which goes with my somewhat wavey hair (at least when it’s long; short it’s actually kinda curly) since it naturally feathers out without much effort.

Really don’t do much. I just don’t cut it (it’s been over a decade since I even went to a barber). Keep it clean, conditioned and I can just brush and comb out any tangles and help the feathering out and look like I belong in A Flock of Seagulls.

I’ve also got wavy hair and tend to let it grow out to my shoulders, because it annoys me past that length, then cut it short and start over. What seems to get the best results for me passing is letting my hair get slightly messy so that it doesn’t look ‘finished’ the way people expect a woman’s hair to look. I usually just use a wide tooth comb and let my hair air dry after showering so that it forms messy ringlets, which I think people associate more with rock/punk/alt male looks than female.

Honestly not sure exactly what people are responding to when I do my hair that way, it just works for me. 🤷‍♂️ YMMV depending on locality and personal face shape.

The classic rule of ponytails is that if it’s tied low on the head, down by the nape of the neck, it’s masculine, while if it’s tied on the top of the head it’s feminine. Don’t know why, but that makes for a fairly easy and forgiving default — anything at least shoulder length can be tied in a ponytail.

I have no idea if my opinion has value as I am a CIS male, but I have to say, mullets are the fucking best. Business in front and party in back. Bonus points if you give it to yourself.

Ahhh, the wonderous mullet. It’s definitely at the top of my list.

I had a mullet maybe two or so years ago. Got they/them’d noticably more with it so I cut it all off. I know that the style is also popular among lesbians. Is there a difference in the type of mullet that men get vs women?

Let me introduce you to the whole genre of metal music

But seriously, I don’t know of any famous male long haired metal musicians I wouldn’t call masculine. Except maybe 80s glam rock/metal scene, but that’s it’s own thing. Hope that helps (sorry if not)

    [Disclaimer: not trans]

Are you looking for long-long, or just “not close to a buzz-cut?” If the latter, I think just looking through these search results could give a lot of inspiration. I think, in general, the key might be to let it be a couple inches long on top, but keep the sides and back short.

Not a guy but I have to present masc-ish at work.

I also have curly to wavy hair and I tend to sweep all of my bangs to one side or straight down the middle. Or split my hair so that the split aligns with about the outside end of one eyebrow.

This usually leaves my hair looking a lot less fem.
