that analogy doesn’t work. your first statement was “is” your second was “should”. this is an interesting example of an is/ought confusion.
if one had said “the president does not commit crimes! never met him btw” the response would be a lot more reasonable, wouldn’t it?
of course anyone xan make ought statements about anything. you didnt. you said it wasnt fun as if it were a fact. disclaiming your ignorance is fine but not really an excuse. but hey, I dont know anything about you, yet I think you’re a turd swallowing ninny monger!!
Apparently, the process of filming pornography is really messy, arduous, starts to smell bad quickly, and many of the positions are uncomfortable. Not to mention the fact that many scenes need re-takes. That’s just the reality of filmmaking.
It’s also quite awkward to have a director and camera crew staring at you the whole time and giving you instructions.
On top of that there is a loooooot of shady shit going on.
Drugs. Lots of drugs. All of them. All at once.
Jerks getting on blacklists just to circumvent them and end up on stage again just to beat the shit out of another actor/actress. There is a good chance that you unknowingly watched rape at some point.
You get persuaded a lot as a porn star. To fuck people you don’t wanna fuck with, to do things you don’t wanna do.
And then there are the fans, oh boy. Imagine being the target of a troll campaign and the trolls have literally terabytes of ammunition against you. They get really disgusting and you get harassed online and in RL all the time.
If you somehow have a family life going on, they will also be targeted by that shit. Retired porn actresses want to have children but they can’t, because they don’t want their kids to live through that hell.
Luckily not a porn star myself. Just read a ton of AMAs and articles on the subject. The more you inform yourself about what’s going on behind the scenes, the less you actually want to watch porn. It’s a mood killer to say the least.
Sure, just opt away from anything that’s created by artists and you’re good.
However I was specifically positing an option outside of the sex work industry that doesn’t have a significant history of drug abuse, sexual abuse, worker abuse, and overall unhealthy precedents.
There are some minidocumentaries and interviews on the subject. On top of surgery and drug use being basically required, it’s not a career you can work in for more than a few years for most and comes with various health complications. Plus, once it’s out there on the internet it’s harder to pursue any other career with a public image.
Its a classic “if you’re in the top 1% of the industry its pretty great, but shit for everyone else”.
You could say the same thing about NFL linemen or professional musicians. Spending half your life to develop a talent into something people will pay to witness, getting maybe two to five good years out of it if you’re lucky, and then retreating back to the low-skill service sector once you’ve destroyed your body.
Also, lots and lots of drug use and managers/owners who will exploit the fuck out of your few good years. And a disturbingly high rate of physical and sexual assault to keep the gears of industry turning profitably.
Even many of the top performers have told some absolutely horrendous stories, so even if it’s great for a time they’ve probably had to wade through more shit than the average porn star. Alongside this, even many of the best stars might have only been active for a small period of time, but have pumped out dozens/hundreds of films.
I’ve known some people that have got involved with sex work, some working on professional shoots/films, and while it was a very protected industry at times, they’ve told some nasty stories of in-dating, jealousy/sabotage, pressure to do work in camming alongside, and nudes they’ve sent to agents being leaked online without consent. Even the less grim parts, like a studio pairing two girls that had never met before, telling them to drive 2 hours to a set, and within 2-3 minutes having them shoot together, is all crazy to me.
With that being said, one girl I used to work with got involved with porn, and she seems to have loved it. She went from few career prospects to driving a BMW and having enough money to buy a house and seem financially stable. I guess it varies person-to-person.
Hi. Not a pornstar here. Being a pornstar [professionally] isn’t really fun.
They also say money can’t buy happiness, and my answer is the same: I’d like the opportunity to prove that to myself, thankyouverymuch.
Is it fun to make sweeping statements on the internet about things you have no first hand experience with? Yes, yes it is.
That’s why I said I wasn’t a pornstar.

How would you know?
How do you know?
I am not the parent commenter.

I read this on an AskReddit thread.

Twilight. My brain was violated
It’s a major reason why I only watch independent sex worker stuff now. And even then you can’t be 100% sure…
Yeah, wasn’t there a thing with Amaranth’s husband abusing her and forcing her to stream?
Guess only doujinshi are safe…
Hentai is the only ethical form of porn consumption
Some hentai genres beg to differ
They can beg all they want, in fact I hope they do.
if it isn’t crunched like many anime are.
I like stuff from naughtymachinima, lots of 3D stuff for that extra dimension
2d means no consent necessary and no worries beyond artist mistreatment or underpayment by the publisher.
Which is a molehill compared to the mountain of issues in the actual sex work industry.
2d? Is that like a genre I can avoid or something?

Oh you meant 2D as in illustration
So no different than Hollywood then?
I want to disagree, but somehow I can’t.
Not to mention the number of cases of abuse behind the scenes in that industry…
What this guy said

Being a legal prostitute isn’t fun?
Who knew!
