Should they even bother when the House won’t do shit? I mean don’t get me wrong, Ukraine desperately needs the aid, but until the House plays ball, they aren’t going to get it, and Mike Johnson and Steve Scalise only care about doing the opposite of what Biden wants.

Republicans presently have only a one member margin in their majority. So, you are saying there are no Republicans that will vote for a foreign aid package. I don’t think that’s the case.

2/3 of congress would need to vote for it. I really do not see that many Republicans willing to go along with Democrats right now.

Actually, a discharge can move it out of rules. In any case, we’ll have to see what happens.

Border security can’t get through the Senate, so it really makes no sense to try the House.

A Joke, but not a funny one.

Mitch better whip his treasonous party into shape. I really wish their constituents would see that they’re a disgrace and vote them out.

Ukraine is taking care of our problem for us, namely any threat from Russia. Aiding Ukraine is one of the best possible investments the U.S. could make in terms of tipping the global balance of power in America’s favor.

But I suppose you think Putin is our friend and Zelensky is a Nazi.

Schumer just opened up the Senate floor on this Super Bowl Sunday.

“I can’t remember the last time the Senate was in session on Super Bowl Sunday…”

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The Senate is working through the weekend on a $95.3 billion foreign aid bill with assistance for Ukraine and Israel, but it may still be days until a final vote as GOP Sen. Rand Paul continues to slow the process.

The chamber cleared a critical 60-vote threshold to advance the bill Thursday, took another procedural vote Friday night and held a floor debate on the legislation Saturday.

For his part, the former president also wrote Saturday on Truth Social that the US should stop providing foreign aid unless it is structured as a loan, illustrating the political pressure on Republicans to kill the legislation.

Senate Republicans are now divided over the foreign aid package, and some are pushing for amendments to make changes to the bill – including to add measures related to immigration and border policy.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Thursday that Democrats hope to reach an agreement with Republicans over amendments.

As the Senate continues its debate on the legislation over the weekend, advocates are calling on lawmakers to approve an amendment that would give Afghans who were evacuated during the US’ withdrawal of Afghanistan a path to permanent legal residency in the US.

If I was a senator I’d be pissed off with all of these late night and weekend shenanigans. Can’t we just do this crap during the work day, M-F and skip the drama?

Schumer is in charge of the Senate work schedule. Since people like Rand Paul decided to slow the proceedings, he determined to push it though. This bill could have been passed Friday if it wasn’t for Senators throwing up roadblocks.
