U.S. climate envoy John Kerry called on countries on Thursday to take a "more critical step" in tackling climate change by stopping any new unabated coal-fired power, just over three months before U.N.-sponsored climate talks begin in Dubai.
China, India, Indonesia, Japan and Vietnam are building new coal fired power plants. China is by far the most important consuming over half the worlds coal today. They are also building the most plants, whereas especially Europe and the US are shutting down theirs over the years. So the US is in a position to lobby for less coal to hurt China and we all know the current problems both of them have right now.
