I’ve heard it explained that “hey” used to be more of an urgent way to get someone’s attention, rather than a casual “hello” like it is now, so it sounded rude to some older folks.

    In the nineties, i had an old guy respond “‘Hey’ is the first stage of horse shit.”. I still use it to this day.

      that’s so much better. I’m 100% incorporating that into my daily phrases
