I’ll take it over the literal slop of propaganda that comes out of NK, it’s definitely more reliable than that at the least.

oh and just as a quick addendum, i feel compelled to point out that the daily nk is literal propaganda slop. that is its actual purpose!

The organization is part of a consortium with the Unification Media Group, which is a South Korea–based non-profit organization that produces and delivers radio content into North Korea via short-wave radio broadcasts.

like it’s not even pretending to be subtle. even the fucking wiki page admits it.

i’m sure you would, but that doesn’t really say anything about the veracity of the claims presented. it just tells us where your biases lay. did you know that under SK’s National Security Act it’s functionally illegal to say anything positive about the north? like, this is a real verified law that we know exists and does (more or less) what the article says the north is doing. meanwhile the article gives us gems like

According to a Daily NK source in North Hamgyong province recently, four people in their twenties were arrested in Chongjin by local state security officers for talking like South Koreans.

wow, extremely verifiable! the daily nk is run out of seoul, takes CIA cutout (NED) money, and relies exclusively on anonymous sources, so it simply must be believed.

a question for you to ponder: if i asked all the people who most hated you and wished to see you dead what their opinion on you was, and then formed my opinions exclusively on their word, would you consider that fair? would you consider it “definitely […] reliable”? you don’t need to answer, but do give it some thought.

Could you even FIND any “NK” propaganda if you tried, or are you just considering anything outside the US imperial propaganda sphere (the biggest and most pervasive in history) to be “enemy propaganda”? Seriously, I want to know where in the english-speaking internet you think people are even encountering northern perspectives at all. Because this seems to me like the laziest, most ridiculous “no u”.

Tell me where you see this “slop of NK propaganda”, and if you say “from hexbearberdly-smug” We’re going to bully you for being God’s most Predictable Redditeur.

This is one of the oldest and most effective tricks in politics. Every hack in the business has used it in times of trouble, and it has even been elevated to the level of political mythology in a story about one of Lyndon Johnson’s early campaigns in Texas.

The race was close and Johnson was getting worried. Finally he told his campaign manager to start a massive rumour campaign about his opponent’s life-long habit of enjoying carnal knowledge of his barnyard sows.

"Christ, we can’t get away with calling him a pig-fucker,” the campaign manager protested. “Nobody’s going to believe a thing like that.”

“I know,” Johnson replied. “But let’s make the sonofabitchh deny it.”

Why won’t someone defend the DPRK when they’re literally fighting for their freedom? They’re literally blockaded by the US and threatened with invasion drills every single year, not to mention that the US literally occupies the south with military bases. The rational stance on this issue is to be in the side of the DPRK.

Because NK is a despotic hellhole. The rational stance on the Korean war is to stay the hell out of it, both sides are horrible examples of states failing their only purpose. Whatever magical utopia you think NK will become without the intervention of capital and capitalism is just a fantasy that will not happen, not in North Korea.

Which is why you should be advocating for american troops to leave Korea and lift the economic blockade, not demonize the DPRK. Also i know the DPRK is not a “magical utopia”, but unlike you i understand that many of the draconian measures taken by them are a consequence of the continuous state of emergency caused by american imperialism.

That’s straight up not true. Yes, being attacked by America will cause some terrible consequences, they don’t need to devolve into a totalitarian shithole. And you are the weird one for not being and to hold multiple opinions at once. I can acknowledge that America is bad without glorifying regimes at least as bad as America.

Yes, they should just demilitarize so they can be easily bombed and murdered by the gringos so i as a westerner can sympathize with them! Also implying that the DPRK, a country that has never attacked anyone and is literally just trying to survive a siege from the most powerful empire hitherto, is as bad as the empire itself, is straight up stupid.

it’s more wild how eager libs are to insist that a small, relatively poor country that has no real relevance to most people’s lives is some kind of wacky hermit kingdom where you can be executed by artillery strike for having the wrong haircut, every city is made of cardboard for propaganda purposes, and people have to push the trains along the tracks

especially when all of this is presented with no evidence, is often directly contradictory, and makes absolutely no sense if you think about it for more than five minutes

Radlibs like Hasan the Streamer indulge in that aspect themselves. Blaming tankies for having “bad optics” by supporting NK without slandering it. Once they said they same thing about supporting Palestinians and opposing Zionism. Wrong they were and wrong they shall remain. True solidarity screams into the turned faces.

why? i have been shown no credible evidence that it’s a “shithole”
the more idiotic thing would be to believe the often contradictory and ridiculous things that have been said about the country
