He is the best up and coming comedian. It might be better to say he already is here and just killing it. His consistency on yt is great. I saw him at a club and he was great. He has great presence and story telling.

This man is the next comic that will be compared to the other goats.

Not only is he putting out great sets, but he is churning them out at a crazy rate. My friends and I cannot believe how often he’s just like “here’s a 45 min set on the events of the past 3 days” like how does he have time!?!

It’s actually unreal how much material he’s putting out so rapidly. No other standup comedian does anything close to this.

Comedians go on tour performing the same routine, just in different cities. Maybe they’ll revise and adjust it over the course of the tour, and often leave a little room for improv crowd work, but the main routine that is planned and rehearsed is something they write once per tour.

So for Josh Johnson to have an entirely new routine every single week, it’s unheard of. He isn’t just someone who will go down in history next to the pantheon of greats, he’s in his own league doing something none of the greats can be compared to.

It’s crazy how much drive he has. He has so much talent. I’m glad he’s getting recognized.

He can write them quickly because he’s usually not really doing standup. Like he’s not tying together a series of unrelated jokes with a common thread, his sets are usually about one topic.

I do NOT mean that disparagingly - I really like him! But talking about current events and cracking some jokes and callbacks along the way takes a lot less preparation (but not necessarily skill) than what most comics aim for.

His sets are only nominally about one topic. He intersperses a lot of unrelated or distantly related stories and jokes in as well.

Yeah, I just mean it’s an atypical style of comedy for standup. Instead of finding the thread to connect stories, it’s finding the stories for the thread.

Again I am not saying it’s worse, he’s my favorite US comic in a decade.

Oh, I’m with you. But I think most people are not familiar with Josh Johnson and I want them to have a fuller idea of what his sets are like. He is a treasure and I hope he succeeds the way I expect him to. Or the way he wants to.

That makes sense. I think that format is something we need more of now. He is able to walk through tough topics with fun appeal.

Might be a weird suggestion but check out the steamer Atrioc. I’ve never watched him live but he uploads edited streams to YouTube where he talks about current events. His presentation is usually pretty funny

He might be the right pick. I’m interested to see how he does. I love the other hosts, but a lot of them fall into the format of the show too much. It’s like punchy section headlines and clear setups and punchlines. The delivery sounds like a talk show host reading a joke from writers if that makes sense.

Jon Stewart was always a master of weaving it all together. Josh Johnson is much more in that camp. His stand up, which he has a new 30-45 minutes every week, is pretty crazy. While it’s more rambling than would work on the Daily Show, he does have a good ability to drive the underlying point home in a very unique way.

Might work, might not, but excited to see him get some at-bats.

The way he starts with something, then goes on a tangent, and then pulls it all tightly together in the end is just master craft all around. The guy is absolutely amazing

Finally! This is overdue, his DS bits have always been good, but his standup sets are straight fire. If you aren’t aware, he puts up 1-2 full standup sets per month on his YouTube channel.

I absolutely adore this man and I’m happy for him and hope he kills it. But I haven’t loved the cameos he’s been doing on the show. It feels so forced and different from his stand-up persona. Kind of like the difference between Taylor Tomlinson’s stand-up persona and After Midnight.
