Wondering if this is common with ADHD. maybe not only physical media but just things in general. I for one am not a fan that everything is digital and nonexistent so make it a point to own media I care about on physical copies.

I’m a broke computer nerd, always been more about being able to enjoy something than have it in my hands.

That said, I am going to save up for the Murder, She Wrote Blu-Ray set that just came out because the series takes up over 150GB on my media drive and I’m worried about not being able to find it online in the future since it’s such an old person show.

I certainly don’t. I actually prefer digital. It’s a lot easier (and cheaper) to expand and organize my digital storage space than it is to expand and organize my physical storage space.

Now, that doesn’t mean I like the whole “license vs owning” shit. I just like that I can have a thing without having a thing. The thing I care about is the song, the movie, the book, the game, etc.

It also helps against the tendency to hoard. Can’t fill my living space with junk if all the junk I collect is digital. 😌

I have a huge physical media collection. I don’t feel like I actually own something unless I can touch it. The only time I buy digital is when something isn’t available any other way. I think in my case it’s an autism thing rather than an ADHD thing since I’m both.

I long for the physical, but am tied to the digital. If you made me open a disk-drive, put a disk in, wait however long it takes to get something running I think I’d pull my hair out nowadays.

I would say it’s mostly because of ADHD that I prefer digital. I don’t lose it, it doesn’t turn into clutter, I can take it with me without having to remember (e.g. on the steam deck or switch)…

There’s the downside of publishers sometimes removing access to the content, but that’s more of a downside of bad actors rather than digital explicitly - people who bought The Crew as a physical copy still lost access because ubisoft sucks, not because it was digital.

I feel the opposite, I wish more things could be digital. It is convenient and easy to backup.

But honestly I don’t think this is ADHD, maybe the fact that it can be taken to a certain absolutist level is the ADHD part.

If so I didn’t get the memo. I can’t even remember the last time I bought a physical game. I think FIFA 2014 got bundled in when I bought a PS4 like 12 years ago if that counts. Don’t believe I’ve bought a single one since. I love the convenience of my Steam and GOG libraries.

So, I’m actually a big fan of digital. My disks don’t get scratched, my tapes aren’t lost under the bed, and I don’t spill anything on my books.

That being said, I do feel the urge to collect things, and even though I’m not buying physical media, I see merch related to it and think “I should have that. I don’t know what I’d do with it, but I should have it.”

Fortunately, I’m too broke to act on these urges, but I totally understand them.

Absolute opposite for me - give me digital everything as it’s easier to store and organise and doesn’t make clutter.
