When I was 2 or 3 years old, my parents’ D&D group nicknamed me The Hobbit Thief. Apparently I had been sneaking up to the table, and stealing dice for quite some time. I would then stuff the dice in my mouth or pockets and go hide them under my bed. My mother found a stash of 20-30 dice one day while she was cleaning the house.

I’m a kender. It’s in my name. Mom also had to replace all the exterior locks on the house with double key deadbolts to keep me inside, because at the age of around a year and a half, I taught myself how to pick locks.

You could pick a lock at a year and a half? I could barely pick my nose at that age.

I might misunderstand, but “double key deadbolt” just means there’s a keyway on both sides of the door. This shouldn’t prevent a small human from picking the lock to get out…

Party: wait, why are we fighting a single pink unicorn?

    10 minutes later

Party: TIL that unicorns are carnivorous and that, like flamingos, get their coloration from their food.

I knew some people who put together a demo for a MMORPG that would support people playing the monsters or the players depending on what their particular play style was. You could build your character, have social interactions, level up over time, and put all this attention into your skill tree. Or, you could run around and fuck shit up, potentially as a massive OP badass boss who could mow player characters down, and then you would respawn instantly when you (frequently) got killed.

I don’t know of it having been done in exactly the way they wanted to do, although a couple of the games in the Aliens franchise came pretty close. There was also one fascinating mod (I legit can’t remember the name) where one player on the “Marines” team was basically playing an RTS in the ship giving orders and the rest of the team was running around playing an FPS against the (also player-controlled) alien team. It was a ton of fun.

I miss the pre-AAA-shitfest era of gaming.

There’s an RTS/Space Sim called Allegiance where you either play as the commander of the fleet of starships giving orders to your units and spending resources to upgrade your tech tree, or as a pilot of one of the ships (or even as a gunner on a turret on a larger ship). You could even be one of the asteroid mining drones with basically just a melee range taser, trying to sneak around bringing back resources

The Alien vs Predator games were a blast. I used to play as the tiny little alien scout: super fast, hard to hit, could sneak around in vents & run up walls & ceilings… Had about half a hit point, lol, but as long as the “alien life cycle” mode was turned off it was great!
