The video game industry has made the jump to $80, first with Nintendo and Mario Kart World, then with Microsoft and its price hike announcement that will kick in this holiday season. Could Borderlands 4 follow suit?
Publisher 2K Games and parent company Take-Two have so-far remained vague on whether they will go to $80, and Randy Pitchford has insisted the decision is out of his control. But, responding to one concerned fan on social media, Pitchford set the cat among the pigeons by saying that if youâre a âreal fan, youâll find a way to make it happen.â
Hereâs the exchange:
âRandy, this game better not be 80 dollars. Donât take that risk, a lot of gamers arenât gonna pay 80 dollars and feed this notion of constant increase of the price tag. You are the CEO, you have some say with the price when it comes to your publisher.â
And hereâs Randy Pitchfordâs response:
âA) Not my call. B) If youâre a real fan, youâll find a way to make it happen. My local game store had Starflight for Sega Genesis for $80 in 1991 when I was just out of high school working minimum wage at an ice cream parlor in Pismo Beach and I found a way to make it happen.â
As youâd expect, Pitchfordâs comment has sparked a vociferous response.
Heâs not wrong
âDonât you guys have phonesâ-ahh statement
With the power of piracy, anything is possible
I keep hearing everyone talk about a girl that is fit
Hey you dumb poor fucks, a real fan would sell a kidney for this game!
If you sell your kidney for eighty bucks you might wanna find a different organ dealer
Obviously Iâm gonna sell it for more than that, Iâm a dumbass, not an idiot.
The thing that pisses me off about that statement most is him trotting out that anecdote about the 90s like the situations are in any way comparable. If you bought a game in the 90s even if it cost $80 you got the whole fucking game. You know damn well that at the end of the day that $80 game nowadays is going to end up totaling closer to $200 after all the shit they remove to package up separately and sell as DLC.
Battle pass day 1,
Store working day 1,
The game crashes after the second cutscene
Wie viel sind 80$ in 1991 in heutigem Geld? calculateme sagt 190$ in 2025 inflationsangepasst.
/edit: In einem beehaw Kommentar habe ich auch den Mindestgehalt mit einbezogen und einberechnet.
sure, video games are luxury goods, everyone will manage
