Built for stealth and sabotage, the HELMA-LP laser gun disables tech targets at range.
The photo for the article is hilarious. No opticals, just iron sights. I got the mental image of the dude trying to aim at a radio 500m away.
It’s pretty common to avoid using products from other companies in PR photos and during promotional events/announcements(if there’s no deal). And the prominant picatinny rail is enough to tell any potential buyers that they can attach almost anything they want.
No optics. /s
.
It could have a little screen on the side we can’t see that shows you what it’s aiming at.
Just saying, you can absolutely hit something 500+ meters away with iron sights. Heck, I’ve personally done so at 900 meters. I’ll grant that I was prone, however.
But can you hold it on target consistently for the time needed for this weapon to achieve the deaired effect?
Absolutely not, although a scope likely wouldn’t assist there. The weapon itself needs to have some form of stabilization that will keep it locked on after firing has started.
True.
I mean, not having any bullet drop must be pretty nifty but unless it can auto target to a certain degree, you’re gonna be better off trying to shoot it with a rifle or shotgun. I really doubt this thing can sustain fire.
It occurs to me that whenever cool new weapons get used for the first time, it is still a sad day.
Its funny because humans see themselves as very smart, but they built a society where everyone has to work all day to pay their bills, because fantasy “money” is seen as a real, almost physical limitation like air and water, and decider of life or death despite just existing inside computer programs.
And humans still fight eachother, kill eachother, have wars on a global scale, because all big country leaders are narcissist psychopats.
Actually when taking a step back from all this, its very sad to be part of this species. What are we supposed to be proud of when we leave this planet? I guess at least we can try to not do harm on a personal level and try to bring up children who can think for themselves and are kind to others.
We could use a mulligan on the last 12 eons, give or take.
Unless aliens attack! No, wait… Ok yeah.
They have better lasers than France, IIRC.
I feel like this article is maybe half human-written at most. The bullet-pointed section in the second half is giving AI slop vibes
I think its the new normal and its quite annoying. Luckily i dont read most major sites… If I want to find out something, I can just ask chat gpt directly and get a list of pros and cons.
Obviously being aware that its scewed into supporting whatever the official “message” is.
Hold on - do you seriously use ChatGPT as a news source?
For historic events yeah, its great.
It’s really not.
