Eugenics is in itself not bad. You’d want to eugenics away sickle cell anemia disease, for example. But because of history, it is understandable that eugenics has gotten a bad rap. And drawing the line where you want to perform it is blurry. Should we do away with autism or Down syndrome?

No, it is very bad. What gives you the right to deem other unworthy of having children. Under the international law it is genocide to forcefully sterilize a population.

Why allow child to be born with sickle cell anemia if they are going live a lifetime of pain?

It is perfectly understandable that eugenics has a bad name because it has been abused. Although, you should read up more on the topic as it is actually more nuanced.

What gives you the right to decide that life is unforth living? I’m not saying that it isn’t going to be hard but I think it is wildly unfair to take away someones life. If you choose not to have kids due your own experiences that is fine but don’t do more than that.

There is a movement in the in the downs syndrome community to stop terminating pregnancies. The rational is that people deserve to at least have a chance at life even if it is hard. It is a hard problem but I think the biggest danger is people seeing anyone who is different as likely to suffer.

What makes you think a lifetime of suffering is worth it? Some children and family sue medical practitioners for not disclosing genetic abnormalities that led to deleterious life which eats away not just their finances, but also their entire sense of fulfillment to live a less stressful life.

There are diseases that should be rid of, and there are one where it gets blurry and tantamount to genocide as you rightly pointed out. It is not up to me nor anyone really who should decide. Even ethicists can’t settle on the topic.
