        He’s the quintessential cowboy. If you’re making a movie with a cowboy character and he’s not interested in the role, might as well ditch the character.

        He’s the narrator in The Big Lebowski and he’s also the dad in The Ranch.

          He was the absolute perfect casting choice for Lee Scorseby. It’s a shame the movie was dog shit and the studio killed the series, but I wouldn’t have blamed the BBC in the slightest if they’d approached him to reprose the role. Instead we we got Lin Manuel Miranda, who was fine. But he wasn’t Sam Elliott.

            Fun fact: the studio made the movie dogshit, too. Watch the trailer for it - they filmed a bunch of scenes from the book, including the original ending, that never made it to theaters but still ended up in the trailer.
