Bars, clubs and other night time entertainment venues need to be highly sound proofed where I live. Even if the venue is built on a somewhat isolated area, it’s still required for the building to be insulated to some degree.
I had a restaurant that had a longer hours permit next to my house and because they didn’t had stronger insulation, they couldn’t exceed a certain decibel level after 22h00.
And even then, every so often, a patrol car would swing by to check if everything was calm, to keep the more rowdy patrons level headed.
Regardless of the floor, you will hear everything once you open any window. Plus there’s closing time when everyone is loud outside and taxis are idling.
I have slept above the club and found it so relaxing - the thumping muted music. Even now I like when the neighbors have a party and when we can hear stadium concerts. Not sure why, it’s not exactly white noise, but I enjoy sleeping in that “music nearby but not right here” situation. I think it just makes my brain relax because it thinks things must be ok if there is a party?
I wish my brain worked like that… Anything that has a pattern my dumbass brain is like “oh a pattern! Let’s focus on that like your life depends on it!” Music would drive me crazy lol
I need the randomness of actual “white noise” to drown out anything that my brain would feel the need to pay attention to. It’s insanely annoying.
I often hear music in the fan noise, or voices in running water, if I’m tired enough - auditory hallucination, it’s funny because it absolutely sounds like it’s coming from outside my body but I know logically it’s my brain. That I do sometimes “listen to” but it’s always such awful music. Different styles all the time but never good.
And yeah vigilance is the enemy of sleep.
A couple of my coworkers and I, all musicians, had kids around the same time and we all complained about being able to hear the loop in the rain or ocean “white” noises from various baby machines.
I’ve noticed that too! I can only use the “static noise” ones, not anything looking to replicate any natural sounds or I notice the pattern too lol
Probably depends on the bar, but even if you can’t hear it through the floor, you can still hear it through your windows. Bars can be very loud.
I was in a sixth floor walkup and couldn’t hear the bar on the ground floor through the floors. But opening the windows in the summer yeah, depending how loud people were being out front on the sidewalk.
6th floor walkup is… ugh.
I used to work late hours on the third floor of a four-story building that housed a comedy club and bar in the basement. The constant noise and distractions made it almost impossible to concentrate.
Basement, not even the ground floor?
Basement. Ground floor was a restaurant, second - 4th were offices.
No clue, it was just a two story building and my bedroom was above the dance hall.
That’s going to depend a ton on the materials, insulation, windows, etc. Reinforced concrete buildings are going to behave differently to wooden structures.
Not to mention the bar.
I mean, I’ll believe that OP is frustrated with the noise, but I can’t see how he’s going to get a useful answer from this.
