I’m old, so all I know is what I read and I don’t know how much of that is scaremongering
It depends on the country. In mine, there’s a housing crisis, a job market that sees less and less of the right things in us, and a marriage deflation. So that’s all three of the main elements of life that aren’t going so well.
Job market = ass Housing market = ass
I applied to over 300 positions before I found my current position. I have a STEM degree.
To afford a house today if you don’t want to live in a crack den it will take at least 200k on the low end.
The world has been designed to keep us perpetually in debt. I’m lucky I’m very reserved and have been able to fight against this somewhat.
Is stem not worth what it was? It’s got a reputation for being one that gets you places
Everyone else being pressured to get the same STEM degrees, along with older professionals staying in the workforce longer, together with rampant outsourcing, leads to a very competitive market.
Ahhhh of course. Parents etc advice is often wildly out of date. I’m part of the generation that was told “just do any degree and you’ll get a job!” Which was totally outdated bullshit
Oh don’t worry we were still hearing that well into the 90s and early 2000s. It hasn’t been true since the 80s but every single parent and teacher I ever interacted with all said that.
I dont know if “young people” as a group have very much incommon. Depends on country, where you live, income level, etc…
I think social media has globally made young people more miserable though. Its literally propaganda about how you are not good enough and never will be.
What’s it been like growing up with social media? It didn’t exist till j was in my 20s
I’ve watched every one of my friends grow dumber by the day for the last 20 years. Propaganda or just outright misinformation for no reason other than “it’s funny” is rampant, both from individuals and from corporations or political groups.
The internet at large has been compressed into six websites and if you want to buy or sell things on the internet anymore you have to do it through Facebook.
Every single village idiot that used to be safely ignored now has a global voice with 12,000 other idiots backing them up, and they’re dragging all the rest of us down into the mud with them.
Social media has been a huge net negative for everyone involved. End of story. For a very brief time it was pretty cool and then it very swiftly became a societal disease. We really, really fucked this one, majorly.
Fucking hell that’s a really good way of putting things. I totally agree with village idiots, the “wake up sheeple!” types used to only be able to discuss it in the pub with people around them. Now they can connect all over
Well besides mental health issues, and the horrible horrible (its been horrendous for decades, but now I know for sure nothing will change anymore) state my country is in? Uh yeah, still not doing good even without them.
What are attitudes like to MH with young people like?
The topic is never talked about at all. I’m not NT myself so I struggled heavily through my life. Saudi’s one of the most conservative countries today so it makes sense.
I guess if I had to guess, most are just content with their lives no matter how awfully shitty it is… Thats what decades of propaganda will do to you.
I get that mate, it’s hard. How do you find Saudi to live in?
Well… we have no democracy, no human rights and horrendous wealth inequality and shit climate (40 celsius every day now). So, incredibly hard to live here.
At least we got nice deserts/mountains and some interesting culture/history.
40??? Fuck. How hot will it get in full summer? It hit 30 in the UK a couple of years ago and we still talk about it
I have no idea. Maybe 50? Sometimes it even reaches that. Not excited for it, that’s for sure.
Lord that’s awful I sympathise
You know, ghost things.
