It’s frankly embarrassing that Yakitate!! Japan isn’t on the list.
Omg I literally just commented that before reading your comment. My guess is that it’s because it’s solely about bread rather can cooking in general.
My guess is it’s because the doofus who wrote the article didn’t do basic research.
I wouldn’t doubt it, honestly. It’s like the original “omg I’m reacting so ridiculously to eating something” anime.
Invalidates the whole list.
I’m going to add Today’s Menu for the Emiya Family on the grounds that it’s hilarious if you know what the characters are like in the main franchise. Someone took a grimdark death battle story and made a slice of life cooking spinoff, and it somehow works
Another one that often gets overlooked is Bartender, from 2006.
And the Bartender remake from 2024.
Oh what? I hadn’t heard, thanks!
An older one I really enjoyed was Yakitake Japan but it was mainly about bread rather than cooking in general.
Wonder if any of them have actual recipes you can try out in real life, I have recently started getting into cooking. Food Wars is on my to watch/read list.
I’m not entirely sure. I haven’t watched many of them but the Food Wars gastronomy is acute! So some of the techniques are certainly usable.
I’ve thought about this myself especially with campfire cooking as he goes through all the steps when he cooks. The only thing is he uses monster meat but there seems to always be a real life equivalent.
Haven’t watched any of those but the manga Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen has recipes
It’s not 10 Best without Yakitate Japan.
Even when it’s not the main focus, it’s always enjoyable when there’s some real love put into a cooking or eating scene.
Welcome to Japan Ms. Elf was largely about food and cooking.
Cooking master boy is a great 90s anime about cooking battles similar to Yakitate! Japan which someone else already mentioned.
“Restaurant to Another World” is one of my favorites.
My personal favourite is Yotsuiro Biyori. It was such a delight to watch. I also enjoyed Kakuriyo a lot, glad it’s getting season 2 this fall.
