Why does it get posts from Mastodon and Pixelfed when the LW one doesn’t?
I just created a test community on Fedia.io to see. Turns out Mbin allows you to add hashtags you want to monitor on your community, and posts from the rest of the Fediverse will also be added to your community:

I might create a dedicated post on !fedigrow@lemm.ee, that can maybe help grow some communities.
Oh I see. So posts from Pixelfed which were never intended for the threadiverse can make their way to the threadiverse in that way.
Posts from Pixelfed that the Pixelfed user specifically wanted to send to a Lemmy Community can still go there, if they’re @ mentioned, then.
Yes, that’s the idea! Realistically, most of the Pixelfed users would not post a random Lemmy community, so relying on hashtags is probably better
