    transphobia

    When I wasn’t looking one of my students left me what looked like a wedding invitation which I thought was weird but when I opened it it was a freaking religious thing telling me to stop being gay and give my life to Jesus. It referred to me as a son of God all the way through and every time it put SON in all caps.

    I don’t want to let them win but I’ve been feeling discouraged all day ever since.

      My initial response was ironically “Jesus Christ” out loud.

      I don’t know your country, state, circumstances etc, but is there anyway they can be made not your student? Moved to a different class, dropped out of said class, or at least some sort of ramification?

        Haha I love the irony.

        The thing is that I have no idea who it was. Long story short, the way the classroom is set up and the way the class itself is structured, I walk around the room a lot to different tables working in groups, and someone put it on top of the book I’d brought with me and had on my podium. They were sneaky and stayed anonymous. So to my knowledge there’s absolutely nothing I can do.

          Okay that’s tough. And shit that it happened.

          Again depends on your circumstances but might be worth investigating what the ramifications would be if you knew, so that if you find out later or you feel you want to warn the classs against further events etc(that also you need to weigh pros and cons).

      i once had a family member I hadn’t talked to in years send me a multipage screed like this.

      I dont know what these people get out of this sort of thing but I think it scratches some kind of disgusting itch. Hang in there, these people are stupid, misinformed, and wrong.
