Even with the endless propaganda, I never feel like China hates us. The best the west comes up with are nebulous schemes they say they are running but they do a really shit job of conveying “hate” or even anything close to the tension of the Cold War. China has done a great job of being like, “hey we really want to work with you but you are not willing”.

They should hate us though, the us govt seems to be adversarial to a point of absurdity.

It kinda reminds me of that period when XHS was blowing up and USAmericans realized that Chinese people don’t really think about the US in the same way that we think about China.

Chinese people have better things to focus on than jingoism.

One of the more interesting points for me in Gao’s “The Battle for China’s Past” is when he goes into detail about how Chinese media since the Deng era, at the government’s behest, goes way too easy on the US and has given the people a distorted positive view.

This facade is only starting to crack now, but most Chinese nationals still put the US on a pedestal and believe it’s a land of milk and honey.

They really don’t (gigantic L for China tbh, I do not at all understand how other countries have a positive view of us, especially like China and Vietnam)

Every accusation against China that USians make feels like something out of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

Also the handful of times the Chinese were educated on what we were doing it rose them to such furor, theres an episode of season 3 of Blowback talking about the volunteer army that includes a quote from a regular Chinese dude who could not wait to kill all the yankee imperialist dogs.

Conversely, this implies that if the US were to defeat a foreign power, they should expect to be slaves to us. Apparently you either are a slave or a slaver. In no world can we just be equals. Wild idea for the people who think seeing US history as oppressors vs the oppressed is misrepresenting history.

Conservatives I know do have this zero sum mentality. They think the world is dog eat dog and everyone is against you and so you should look after yourself (and the family which they want to have patricharcal lordship over)

They live in a sad and lonely world

That is where literally most of the anti-China arguments come from. China will have a bigger economy. China makes more ships. So what?!!? They are doing their thing, just let them be. If you want more US ships, well no one is stopping the US from doing that.

The only ones who think like this are imperialist whites. Because to them, anything other than absolute domination is slavery. Treating others as equals is slavery. That’s how all of that old ‘white genocide’ rhetoric started.

I feel like this is true for so many countries and people around the world. What the fuck do you actually like about America? Honestly the US should be viewed by everyone the way everyone (outside of the US and W. Europe) views Israel. You all should despise us. I mean I like to travel but I would actually be encouraged if I got some hate for being American when I do.

I get a lot of it is about American media but g-d other than The Joy of Painting 99% of what we make is shit.

Often when you travel and encounter people who say nice things about the US, they are just saying that for your benefit. Especially if you can potentially become a customer of theirs.

Just respond by critiquing the US and they will often be surprised but quickly accept it and respect you more for it.

My experience anyway. When I exit this country, I take advantage of the free speech I can only enjoy in other countries.

I’m not White though so people may be more comfortable with me.

well i kind of do for all the us did to us, but a lot of you are cool.

i’m the exception too, most people here look up to you because of the land of opportunity propaganda.

  • it’s incredible that the deficit hawks are now saying money doesn’t mean anything.

these bozos are dismantling dollar diplomacy (where the US prints money and trades it for actual things made elsewhere) because they have been propping up the “debt” of trade imbalances and sovereign debt as a bogeyman.

so now the tariff threats are them calling in the chips. they want all the worthless pieces of paper and digital accounts to be shifted back into “US” control, and for this great pile of abstract nothing, they are willing to sacrifice the actual things (consumer goods, construction materials, etc) historically available on the global market that the US dollar could buy.

of course, all that beautiful fake money isn’t “returning” into anyone’s actual bank account, so now the message is “the money doesn’t matter. what matters is patriotism. feed your kids that.”

i get why rich assholes, capitalists, and their blowhard, platformed mouthpieces are saying all this shit. but any working class bozo who repeats it or believes it is the biggest fucking rube in the history of rubes.

Deficit hawks and people who don’t want any public services, everything is supposed to be bought for $$$.

of course, all that beautiful fake money isn’t “returning” into anyone’s actual bank account

Yes, the money is returning, but it is also disappearing, because it was just digital ones and zeroes or (in rare cases) literal bank bills or government certificates.

      so now the message is

The message is don’t be afraid to let your body money die!

“Losing money means nothing” what is this man ? I reread his tweet several time and it doesn’t mean anything just words thrown together.

And respectfully despite all the evil that america has done around the world nobody hate and despise Americans more than Americans themselves.

There’s a point to be made about, for a government, money being just ones and zeroes. The US government can literally create as many dollars as it wishes, it’s just a political decision.

However, this person is essentially saying “who cares if you’re impoverished, as long as you’re racist”, which is peak right wing disgusting behaviour.

In the larger clip, he argues that tariffs lowering standards of living will “build character” and how that is worth so much more than having income. A man living the most coddled, spoiled existence is telling us that having to eat cat food will increase our bootstrapping stats.

Dude, I just work here. If anyone hates me it’s because of the rich assholes claiming to represent me when they spread misery around the world. Once they’re defeated by whatever scary foreign power I’m pretty sure I’ll be fine.
