They pay slightly more than minimum wage and haven’t fired them yet. I used to work at the plant in Fremont; nobody I worked with directly was really there by any real choice other than “I need money and they hired my ass.”
But I mean… That’s the case with pretty much every job I had except for Relay.
Sure, they should just quit and strap on their job helmet and squeeze down into a job cannon and fire off into jobland where jobs grow on jobbies.
I’m sure all of the Tesla employees are looking for new gigs, but it’s going to take a while. And someone without a job facing homelessness and starvation will be willing to take their place.
People used to do the same thing for SpaceX. The advice engineers were giving each other was go work there for a couple of years then get out before they burn you out.

More likely that they want Tesla on their CV, and not something ordinary like Volvo.
