The general public isn’t aware of this, but opossums are among the few mammals that are immune to capsaicin. They’re also immune to the venom of pit vipers and scorpions, which they view as tasty snacks, and mostly immune to the rabies virus which is incredibly lethal in most other mammals, but that’s besides the point here, they can just grab a carolina reaper with their little paws and munch away as if it was a bell pepper.
