A Mississippi district attorney proposed new legislation Wednesday to pay bounty hunters a reward for helping to deport immigrants in the country illegally.

    The US is unusual in having bounty hunters, but they’ve been around continuously for a long time. I’m sure that slaves were tracked down by bounty hunters, but they were around after that as well – it’s not some sort of institution specific to slavery.

    The Philippines – which was a US territory for a while – also has bounty hunters.

      Well in Mississippi at least, there never was a whole lot of difference between the old slave patrol and the modern bounty hunters, and now whatever the heck this is.
