Adderall works great for me for pushing through the focus issues and inattention. However, my anxiety and rumination kept building and building until I had an anxiety attack and have since gone on an SSRI as well and after a week of upset stomach, and 3-4 weeks of feeling nothing, my anxiety melted away. The funny thing is, I honestly didnt know how fucking bad my anxiety was. I am an extremely self-relfective person, but that shit was hiding behind everything, and it took the attack for me to identify it.
So, my advice is once you’re on a med that’s working for you, after about 2-3 months work with your psych and therapist to analyze whether you have anything else impacting you on top of the ADHD. Depression, anxiety and a few other mental health issues are comorbidities to ADHD and if you don’t treat those effectively, or let them hide behind you unknowingly like I did, you could suffer a mental health episode like I did.
Medication is working great for me. The clarity and focus have been astounding. And I only was partially the way there with adderall alone.
Anxiety is a problem for me as well I’ll be scheduling a psychologist appointment soon, just waiting for a call back, but knowing has helped me deal with it a bit more.
After decades of struggling and thinking everyone was like me, I just want to know what normal feels like.
