4chan has become unbearable due to a ridiculous rule that, coupled with some of the worst choices in moderation staff, has turned even the slower, thematic boards into some of the least free-speech-friendly places on the internet. And when I’m saying “free speech” I don’t mean slurs or being mean to people in general, I mean expessing all kinds of opinions that local moderator might not like, most importantly discussing their unjustified actions regarding deleted posts and blocked users. Citing the rule that made this happen:
- Complaining about 4chan (its policies, moderation, etc) on the imageboards may result in post deletion and a ban.
Well, you’re posting this on the Threadiverse, so I expect that you find this platform acceptable. You could set up a lemmy/mbin/piefed instance and run whatever policy you want on your instance. I don’t know whether there’s an option for anonymity rather than just pseudonymity, if anonymity is what you’re after.
This platform is good, but I don’t see this format as interchangeable with imageboards. For me redditlikes and imageboards are totally different beasts. And even within imageboards, there are actually 2 totally different non-interchangeable types: those like 4chan, a format I’m talking about, the one most often associated with the word “imageboard”, and those like gelbooru, which are closer to stuff like pinterest. Still thanks for letting me know about mbin/piefed because I wasn’t aware of those.

What functionality are you looking for that’s specific to the latter? I mentioned the anonymity rather than pseudonymity, but I’m not sure off-the-cuff what else one would want.
