It’s one thing knowing it’s going to happen, it’s going to be something else entirely when it does.

It’s like knowing you’re going to die. We all “know” our day is coming, but we don’t really appreciate that until we get old or someone close to us passes away.

And even if they are they will redirect it. Was inflation caused by trump printing $7 trillion dollars in one year while forgiving PPP loans made by wealthy businesses? No, it’s because Biden passed an infrastructure bill.

Or you can go back 1 step further. Was it caused by Trump firing the pandemic response team and allowing Covid to be the first domestic pandemic in a hundred years, and forcing a shutdown of almost all US business, forcing the Fed to drop interest rates to historic lows to stimulate the economy, and way overdoing that, allowing the wealthy to buy more assets for essentially nothing while the working class worried about if they would lose their jobs while the investor class bought more and more property driving housing inflation while supply chains worldwide were put on hold and then jump started causing everyone to raise price to make up for lost income and increased demand causing inflation in goods. Then with goods being so much more expensive and a ton of freshly printed money driving inflation, did people want to be paid more to continue to exist, driving wage inflation?

No, surely it was Joe Biden being nice to trans people that caused this. People are fucking stupid, and I’m not looking forward to the next 4 years.

This might very well not (yet) be the “burning of the reichstag and declaration of the state of emergency” part of the fashist takeover. Trump is incompetent but if he does to much damage the government might just complety collapse and musk and zuck can enact a monarchy.

I am much more afraid of the people in the second row ready to take over than of trump himself.

No my point is that if your addiction starts again because your non preferred candidate got elected, you have a character issue.

I didn’t like Biden as a President but I got consistently stronger and healthier during his term.

The part of my life that I’ve voted Republican corresponds to the part of my life I’ve taken the most realistic assessment of myself and my role in the world, and I see the two as connected.

“Non preferred candidate” - self declared “day one dictator” whose last run ended with women essentially losing the right to survive non viable pregnancies (how many women have already died)? Don’t forget the trans military ban he put in last time, which is probably going to turn into a ban on adult transition.

Yeah there seems to be this palpable expectation on Lemmy that any day now half of the voting public is going to have some realisation and say “oh my god what have we done”.

It doesn’t work like that though.

Most of the actual retarded things Trump said he would do like the tariffs et cetera will be done in performative way. Done in a way that isn’t too disruptive or harmful but still lets him say he stuck it to China.

The more insidious project 2025 stuff isn’t applied in real time. How does the media report on the slow corrosion of quality of life and rights to privacy et cetera.

ah yes, the illusion of my vote mattering in my state, topped with an icing of illusion of the candidates undemocratically selected by my party representing my views in any way whatsoever. But I’m told it was on me to get off my couch and go vote for one genocider or one that was very likely a genocider, but also a complete fascist nutter. Both choices have broken laws that should have put them behind bars for the rest of their lives.

              very likely a genocider

There are a lot of things to be said about Trump, but we’ve actually had positive headlines regarding genocide heading into his presidency, and it’s no coincidence that the ceasefire in Gaza will go into effect when he takes office. Genocide Joe is just going to stack corpses until they wheel him out of the White House.

I don’t say this pretending that there isn’t likely some profit in it for Trump, because we saw in his first term that every decision he makes profits him financially in some way, but grift is better than more dead civilians.

Its well documented that Netanyahu and Trump are buddy buddy. I guarantee you the timing was to some degree chosen explicitly to benefit Trump. Netanyahu is doing the kinds of things over there that Trump is just itching to do here. (or in Canada or in Mexico)

If Trump gets any credit here it’s for being every bit as moustache-twirling-evil as Netanyahu such that their worldview and interests will tend to align.

I’m not exactly sure either but the “not my president” thing seems to be primarily but not exclusively used by conservatives when they’re not in power.

But lack of progressive messaging, the genocide, and doubling down on neo liberal policies actively suppressed the vote. I blame the people who stayed home, but the blame for them doing so is exclusively on Joe Biden who will be remembered as the president who enabled Trump the second term and everything that that enables.

Probably the end of democracy in the US and likely a form of techno-monarchy and neo-feudalism.

      Not if historic patterns repeat.

Clinton, Dubya, Obama, and Trump all went into office with control of Congress and lost it at the mid-terms, so it’s not unlikely that a portion of voters will flip in 2026.

They’ll be back in 2028 though, when the Dems nominate Gavin Newsom and try replay this ‘joy and unity’ bullshit again.

you’re just poorly educated. Trump loves you

Why would I care what Trump loves? Again, not USian.

US hegemony dies = good for the world. The US is the most evil country om Earth. Supporting genocide, invading Iraq and Afghanistan and Korea and Vietnam and Nicaragua and Guatemala and an endless list of countries, engaging in imperialism and unequal exchange, literally born out of genocide and slavery. Can’t wait to see the US crash and burn tbh

cool. I won’t dispute anything you said because I’m not trying to convince you, just educate.

so you know what happens when empires fall right? power vacuums! who do you think will try to become the worlds new power?

                  everyone

enjoy the endless wars and skirmishes as borders change and entire countries disappear overnight because the “evil hegemony, America” is gone! maybe not endless…but at least within some of our (albeit now shorter) lifetimes!

                  YAY! You win!

hope you aren’t draftable, or near a warzone, or…you know what you’ll find out.

I’m saying. Like are we even going to have an election in 4 years? The dude violates every Norm, every tradition.

The small part of my brain that is conspiratorial be like, he’s not moving the inauguration inside because of the weather or any threat, it’s for the optics, It’s for watering down the ceremony of the transfer of power, because he doesn’t intend to have another one.
