Its already 50c or more per kilowatt hour… https://www.pge.com/assets/pge/docs/account/rate-plans/residential-electric-rate-plan-pricing.pdf

On top of the “The Electric Home Rate Plan includes a $15-per-month Base Services Charge”… because people were starting to get 100% of their power from solar and it was “unfair”.

This is incredibly simple to fix.

Prosecute the power companies for their gross negligence leading to deadly wildfires instead of giving them a free pass every time - there are multiple opportunities to do this every year, like this: Reuters: PG&E Guilty On 84 counts

Instead of plain monetary fees, we just need more severe sentencing.

For example: In the interest of public safety, confiscate large swaths of the infrastructure implicated in the manslaughter, including the resources necessary to maintain it and the consumer contracts funding it.

Build in community service agreements forcing them to subcontract their own personnel to train a new state power agency on the intricacies of the confiscated equipment of the following years.

The more manslaughter, the bigger the state agency becomes until there is no longer a profit motive behind our power infrastructure.

This is incredibly simple to fix.

Generation fee, TOU variable. You pay for the energy you use, depending on when you use it.

Transmission fee. Flat rate. You pay to keep the equipment maintained. Panel size fee, flat rate. You pay more if you need to support larger loads.

    That’s the math.

Pacific gas and electric is privately owned by a billionaire family so those “fees” would end up going in their pocket while still having the slowest change to underground lines. The real solution is make it a public utility. It would fix a lot of problems with the service and how it is run.

TOU is bad for the environment. It’s basically making it cheaper to use dirty sources like gas
