    ESPN’s College Gameday

Really glad they moved the set back to the South Mall after having it next to the LBJ Presidential Library the last several years. The Tower makes a much better backdrop than DKR. Although I don’t love that they used Smokey the Cannon to blow a hole through Beck’s jersey. I was at Gameday in 2019 when they did that to Joe Burrow’s jersey and remember how that turned out…

Well, THERE’s the special teams breakdown that comes from not prioritizing it and tempting the football gods by calling it the “GameChanger Coordinator.”

27-13 Gators after a weaving, slightly crazy KO return. And after some mild silliness, that’s how we go to halftime.

Would love to be wrong about Billy, but he probably needs to surprise in one of the gauntlet games and take care of business against a very weak FSU to save his job.

Still, they definitely had some moments and actually put a team away, eventually.

3rd quarter ends with Kentucky at about midfield versus a Florida D that is either tiring or is being coached to give up some yards to milk the clock. Neither idea is particularly impressive, but Lagway looks like the future and we’ve yet to see Billy do anything truly head-scratching, so we got that going for us…

Pick-6 to the Gators. I don’t really know how Vandagriff was ever a 5-star. That is just not an SEC starter’s arm. Did he get injured in spring ball or something?

Gators still up 3-0 at end of 1st quarter and back in the red zone. Lagway looks better against UK’s defense and with a proper week of preparation, but still playing a bit like a freshman. Florida D is holding up so far, but they just have that feel like Stoops is going to try to wear them out, and I’m not sure if the UF offense will be efficient enough to force UK into being one-dimensional.

Weird sequence there. Gators intercept Vandagriff, then almost immediately Lagway gives it back on a very Freshman-y throw. Kentucky squanders the 63 yard return though, turning it over on downs because they were utterly uncreative. Florida maybe benefited from an early whistle (depends on whether you assume the DL lets up upon hearing it).

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Saturday_in_October#Victory_cigars

In the 1950s, Jim Goostree, the head athletic trainer for Alabama, began another tradition as he began handing out cigars following a victory over the Volunteers.[10] Both teams continued the tradition for some time, though kept it secret due to NCAA rules concerning extra benefits and tobacco products. Alabama publicly restarted the tradition in 2005, though as a result, self-reported an NCAA violation.[11] Every year since 2007, the winner of the Alabama–Tennessee game knowingly violates the NCAA rule and reports the violation in honor of tradition.[12]

Edit: lmao they’ve already updated the 2024 results

Not sure I disagree with Bama having gone for this. You need a three and out either way, it’s just that you’re likely down 7 instead of 4 if you pull it off. OT/2pt is arguably a small price to pay for one more play where you control your destiny.

TCU got VERY lucky to only have running-into called, and not roughing the kicker. They drive down and get another three.
