Dark humor and laughing I can excuse. Dismissing a woman’s life as having little value is well beyond dark humor.

This cop was not involved in the woman’s death. He was not driving the car that killed her. He saw her mangled body as she was dead or dying.

It fucked him up. He is trying to cope.

Coping by dehumanizing the victim? He fucking deserves all the flack he got, fuck him. If it was his own daughter or niece you’d know she would no longer be of “little value”. Piece of shit.

            Coping by dehumanizing the victim?

            Yep.

There is an entire category of tropes documenting such behavior in our culture. It’s pretty common behavior, especially among populations regularly exposed to trauma.

from that article: “Gallows Humor is, by definition, from the perspective of the victim or at least expressing empathy. If anyone else laughs at the victim or the author tries to make the situation funny, it’s some other form of Black Comedy. This trope is generally when the joke itself or simple laughter allows you to deal with your problems.”

I guess it depends on your perspective. Who’s the victim here.

Horseshit. The obscenity of that statement is exactly what makes it dark humor.
