The Dachshund, also known as the Wiener or Sausage Dog, is famous for its short legs and long body. It was bred to hunt badgers, which is why they tend to be stubborn and charmingly grouchy. And given their close to the ground build, it shouldn’t be surprising that Dachshunds are excellent hunters of rats, rabbits, and prairie dogs.
The Kangaroo Island Landscape Board (KILB) is attracting the avian predators so they can take over rodent control from feral cats, the population of which has been reduced by 80 per cent since 2020 following a trapping program.
