Do you find yourself running into any limits for package availability with guix? I’m a bit invested in NixOS, but have contemplated jumping over to guix land. I’m pretty novice though, so with NixOS I really appreciate that a lot of modules have already been written not only for packaging, but for using the packages in systemd services. I also like using deploy-rs to update all my machines at the same time.

There’s so much Nazi and Nazi-adjacent stuff in Finnish history that gets swept under the rug or treated like it’s commie lies. For example the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius was enjoyed by the Nazis, and so Sibelius is often portrayed as unknowing/apolitical, but it was likely more complicated than that.

Same here, the battery charges so fast and lasts so long, the haptic motor feels good, the camera zoom is nice, and it’s a good display. I was dumb and didn’t use a case for a while, dropped it, and now there’s a big crack in the glass back.

If you’re not limited to full length films, how about some of the classic Soviet cartoons?

• Cheburashka (Чебурашка) (4 films about 20 mins each)

While I love Tarkovsky movies, I don’t think any of his films can be called upbeat. Solaris (Солярис) (1972) is the most accessible, but I’d say too broody for someone who wants an action movie. It’s more of a slow reflective film.

I haven’t watched it yet, but maybe Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (Тіні забутих предків) by Sergei Paradjanov could be a typical narrative driven bildungsroman.

Recently finished Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, since I found it in the English section of the local library and it looked short. I didn’t know anything about the story beforehand, but I definitely knew what was going to go happen at the end due to memes.

Now I’m about halfway through Wretched of the Earth by Frantz Fanon. Haven’t read a book before written with such righteous anger.
