Proper crab cakes. Unfortunately 99.9% of the country doesn’t do it right, so you basically have to travel to very specific parts of Maryland to actually understand the hype.

socsa@piefed.socialto Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•USB Type-C is not up for the challenges it hasEnglish7·1 day agoI have honestly never had any problems with jacks getting loose. I have devices from ten years ago that still hold a USB cable just fine.
Me, explaining why I can’t ever imagine having the time to raise children.
socsa@piefed.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your favorites? How do you like them?English9·2 days agoEvery one is an s tier food. I fucking love olives and pickles.
At least Palestine is free so we have that going for us.
The real answer is that it adds depth to the otherwise very edited shot which would look “flat” otherwise.
socsa@piefed.socialto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If americans come to germany and act like german public Transport is the best, how frickin bad is american public Transport?English2·2 days agoThe part a lot of people miss in these threads is that European commutes are often also an hour on public transit, but that one hour radius is wider and there is actual useful last mile service in the suburbs. That’s the big thing the US frequently lacks - the development patterns mean there’s no way to run frequent busses that don’t just get stuck in traffic. So in the US that one hour transit commute can easily turn into 90 minutes or more if you don’t make connections, whereas in European cities it’s much easier to plan around.
socsa@piefed.socialto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If americans come to germany and act like german public Transport is the best, how frickin bad is american public Transport?English3·2 days agoUrban busses will be slower than driving in most situations since they have to stop every few blocks. That’s not really unique to the US. The exceptions are where there are BRT routes which can avoid commuter traffic, and this is becoming more common in the US but still lags behind the best European systems.
Where have you been in the US?
Right, Beauty, and the author’s thinly veiled fetish.
You can’t tell me what to do. You’re not my mom.

socsa@piefed.socialto politics @lemmy.world•Musk doubles down on creating new party after poll says nearly half of Americans would support it: ‘Encouraging’English1·3 days agoThere is absolutely an appetite for a third way/labor/social democrat party if we had a parliamentary system. I actually bet we’d see the entire country shift “left” under those conditions a lot more than people realize, as giving lefties and neolibs room to operate independently would properly marginalize a lot of Republican politics.
socsa@piefed.socialto politics @lemmy.world•Musk doubles down on creating new party after poll says nearly half of Americans would support it: ‘Encouraging’English2·3 days agoGood, but you should pretend like it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread around any conservative associates.
socsa@piefed.socialto politics @lemmy.world•Musk doubles down on creating new party after poll says nearly half of Americans would support it: ‘Encouraging’English7·3 days agoMake sure you lie to all of your Republican friends about how excited you are for a real party where real Americans can meet in the middle!
socsa@piefed.socialto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Nobadeer Beach, Massachusetts, Fourth of July 🏖️ 🇺🇸English41·3 days agoThese are people who are compulsively attached to their cars like a comfort blanket because they’ve literally spent decades never going anywhere which doesn’t involve being near their car. Like, they will drive to the airport, get on an airplane, and then rent a surrogate car the moment they land.
socsa@piefed.socialto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Nobadeer Beach, Massachusetts, Fourth of July 🏖️ 🇺🇸English8·3 days agoHear me out - what if we made like big cars that could fit dozens of people and had the government buy a bunch of them and use them to …shuttle… people between urban infrastructure and the beach. We could call it a “scooty rooty transportation station”
socsa@piefed.socialto /0 Governance@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Discussion - Potential piefed instance in the future?English3·3 days agoSeeking stakeholder involvement is the product of publicity and outreach, not just technically something being in public. I do a lot of community organizing and local government stuff and “the meeting was public” doesn’t cut it if you don’t advertise it. In fact, people will rightfully get pissed off if you say that.
I’m not going to spend a bunch of time worrying about this either way, but a bunch of devs and admins talking about it on matrix isn’t exactly community outreach. Rimu puts universal messages for other things, so it seems like that could have drawn some more widespread input.
And again I know this isn’t the place to debate this, but a lot of users in that thread seem to want to preserve private voting. It’s mostly admins and devs punting on the issue.
As long as you can get fresh crab. The canned lump stuff can definitely make a good cake, but the fresh stuff is still a pretty big step up.
