Yeah, this is certainly geared more toward folks who are already using/familiar with neovim.
If what you’re doing ain’t broke, don’t fix it! :)

Thursday, November 14, 2024: SLS - Nocturnal
Tonight I used the Yaqi badger to compare it with the v24 Fanchurian I’ve been testing out over the last few days. The Fanchurian is certainly softer and denser, but the Yaqi honestly still made a great lather. It does do a worse job holding the lather in the knot (a lot falls through to the bottom) but still performed admirably.
Nocturne is a great scent. Unfortunately my wife doesn’t love it, so I probably will stop with just the sample.
Praise Friday.
Nice, I’m glad you enjoyed it! It’s a very simple scent, but it really feels great on the skin.
Thursday, November 14, 2024: FLS - Mango Mammoth
On theme this morning with a mango sticky rice lather. I think this is my first time using the HoM base, and it gave me a stellar lather.
I’m not the biggest fan of sweet scents, but this wasn’t cloying at all. I doubt I’d buy a full tub, but it’s nice to have a sample kicking around.
Almost to the weekend y’all!
I’m also vaguely considering a refactor to use a sqlite
file instead of json. I think that would be a better experience, even though the file format is more opaque.
Plus then I could in theory track my shaves in the database and do my own analytics!
Something like this might work (caveat that I haven’t tried it)
You’d lose the blade count tracking though unless you tossed the json back into csv format after each shave.
I wonder how difficult it would be to support csv as a format. Would that meet your needs, or would .xlsx be necessary?

An easy two pass shave tonight. Haverford just felt right for a chilly, dark, autumn evening.
I’m running low on the Haverford EdT and AS samples. I might need to get another Stirling order in the mail…
Well that’s not what you want! 😄
I haven’t, but the description sounds right up my alley. I love a good tobacco scent.
Razorock - Puros - Aftershave
Oro Valley + Puros sounds like a winning combination.
It’s definitely a pretty one!
Wednesday, November 13, 2024: FLS
Easy luxury (™️) shave this morning. The Bolzano blade is still performing well, and Sandpiper is a lovely scent for a sunny day. No notes.
Damn, that’s a beautiful handle!
This is my first time hearing about the Stando Perun, looks like a nice razor! How does it shave?
Chesire++;
Of course, the head should pivot, and it should accept 5 blades
😂
Tuesday, November 12, 2024: SLS - First Fanchurian Impressions
Today was my first shave with this v24 knot that u/BossHoggins10 graciously loaned me. I’ve wanted to try a “nicer” badger knot for a while now, so I’m definitely grateful to have the opportunity.
This thing whipped up a mean lather quickly, and the handle felt fantastic in hand. It’s a super dense knot that’s very soft on the face.
Comparing it with the Yaqi 2-band badger that I already own, it’s definitely higher quality. I’m not yet sure if it’s worth the price difference, but it’s for sure a step up.
Arkadia gave an excellent lather, as always.
Thanks for the call out, I’ll keep my eyes open for one of these if they ever pop up (or if I ever have a handle that needs filling).
The Yaqi and Simpson synths that I own both feel soft to the touch, but they cause me more burn than my badger or boar brushes. I wonder if my technique could be part of the issue. I’m trying to stick to just paintbrush-like strokes with those brushes, but still feel some burn regardless.
Tuesday, November 12, 2024: FLS - Tabac Tuesday
It was a pretty good shave for Tabac Tuesday. The lather didn’t quite get where I wanted it to, and the shave itself felt pretty rough. However, I got great results and minimal irritation.
Stirling Gentleman plays really nicely with the stank.
I think I might not like synthetic brushes very much. Surprisingly, they feel much rougher on my face than boar or badger do. Perhaps I just haven’t tried a nice enough synth yet?
The r41 twist has different geometry than the normal r41?
Tbh it almost seems extra insulting to put a bad knot in such a pretty handle…
