Welcome! It’s a bit slow around here compared to reddit but the vibes are chill. 😎
I love cbu3 leaning into the Phoenix as their mascot, glad we’re finally getting the coil version as a mount.
That aspect of ffxiv is one of my favorite things about it - there’s almost no fomo / season pass shenanigans (outside of pvp). I’ve been playing since the 2.X days and the way everything is designed around playing at your own pace has really made it easy to enjoy over the years.
I hope they never stop producing these, I need a full shelf of xiv lore.
Both types of discussion are welcome here - if this ever grows large enough that we need to split the “hardcore” crowd into their own community, we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.
The REAL real tragedy would be losing r/shitpostxiv 🤣
Daily might be a bit much, but I’m looking into a way to set up episode discussion bots for both here and !gundam@possumpat.io. I think two series, one episode a week might be a good starting place?
In the meantime, feel free to run whatever discussion threads you like though!
Media criticism is welcome here, so long as everyone is respectful. Art is inherently subjective - people are going to like different things for different reasons, and it’s okay to say you didn’t enjoy something.
I’d discourage low effort discussion though. Instead of saying “Voyager sucks” let’s try “Voyager didn’t work for me because it was too episodic” (not a criticism I personally have, just an example).
I’d suggest reviewing the posting guidelines in the sidebar, and if anyone gets nasty or you see harassment feel free to file a report or shoot me a DM.
I’d wager this is in response to the campaign going around to block every blue checkmark. Elon can’t let his crowd of sycophants feel like they’re being ignored.
Nothing much in there yet, and I need to set a banner, but it exists!
I’m focusing my instance on some niche topics that I find interesting, here’s what we’ve got so far.
FFXIV → https://possumpat.io/c/ffxiv
Bugs → https://possumpat.io/c/bugmenagerie
Esports → https://possumpat.io/c/esports
Gundam → https://possumpat.io/c/gundam

I was first introduced to Trek many many years ago by my dad - I probably owe most of my sci-fi fandom to him growing up watching TNG, DS9 and later Enterprise. If you asked him though, he is probably a bigger fan of Farscape and Stargate. 🤣
I think so - if you search for those links on your kbin instance, I believe they should show up as magazines and you can subscribe to them the same way.
I agree, the copy->search user experience for exploring the fediverse is pretty terrible. For Lemmy at least, maybe any community ! links should automatically try to resolve on your instance? I also wouldn’t mind an extra little popup on hover, letting you choose to follow the link through to the original instance or have it search/open on your home.
Subscribed! For people on the lemmy side, just searching for https://kbin.social/m/thescarydoor should have it come up.
Posted this elsewhere, but as people flood in maybe some community promotion isn’t a bad thing…
I’ve setup an instance focused on some niche topics and hobbies, there’s not much there yet but here they are if anyone wants to check them out:

As someone who just set up small instance for just a couple friends, thank you so much for all your work! It is really nice to be able to point people to a growing, well moderated community from the jump. Beehaw (and hopefully soon more instances like it) really give me hope that this whole federation thing will work and continue grow in the long term.
possumpat.io is the instance this community is hosted on. It’s a (bad) domain name joke😅
We’re set on moderators for now, though thanks for your interest.
