  • Any de-federated instance doesn’t have the money or resources to start DDOS attacks. You know who does? Large corporations who feel attacked at the very existence of large platforms such as lemmy.world.

Who do we know with those resources, funding, knowledge of software (in general, as well as able to place specific people to learn about certain FOSS projects that have their code available), and the desire to spend such resources?

You know it’s Reddit Co, we know it’s Reddit Co. They know they’re doing it too.

Fuck Spez and his bullshit army. I hope they can sleep well in their suburban McMansions while they sell out their future.

Conspiracy is one thing, this is just obvious.

  • wouldn’t the best take to be to just use the tankie’s labor for the betterment of all mankind? Fuck who makes the shit if it’s FOSS.

Personally I think the decentralized solution is some sort of fake-central website that many people can host part of, no one having full control of any one community. kind of like bittorrent in that you have the one torrent file, but the source of the content is pulled from many locations. You could definitely have redunancy in case one server goes down at any time, but not as much as BT where every seeder needs the whole source. spread it all out. take 100 servers connected to the project, split the content into sections, and then layer the redundancy all over so no two servers have the same cache but also that nothing is only on a single server.

I wish I was smart enough to code or even explain this idea better. :( at the very least I hope I inspire someone.

  • It’s advertising. I don’t care for advertising. It’s like if all food subs were posts by Kraft, Taco Bell, Lays, Ben & Jerry’s, etc.

If people want to advertise, that’s fine, there are avenues for that. r/gonewild got ruined by being filled to the brim with OF ads. Other communities had to be made to recreate the space that gonewild used to be.

the basis for r/gonewild was a place for REDDITORS to “go wild”, not for women who are paid to do so, to then create a reddit account so they can have a place to advertise their product (their photos and videos) for free.

  • and they are not responsible for the feelings of OP. Why should they have to accept OPs way of being blunt when OP won’t do the same for them? Being autistic isn’t an excuse for being a jerk.

OP talks about feeling like they have to coddle people, and I guarantee they 100% feel the same when talking to OP.

I’m just trying to communicate in a way that works for me

Here’s the kicker, you have to communicate in a way that works for people other than yourself when you aren’t talking to only yourself. Everyone would like to be blunt all the time, but then we’d argue more and constantly be at each other’s throats.

OP should read about diplomacy, especially between countries without similar languages.
