I think there’s a small middle class who could survive without working for a year or so, but wouldn’t really be able to live well. Probably mostly just lower level tech workers and so on. Although if they moved to really poor areas in the US they could probably be classified as rich so YMMV I guess.

Hopefully they finish stabilizing cross-platform backups through the new service and port local backups to the new format in a reasonable timeframe, although I’m not gonna hold my breath. I still think it’s completely ridiculous that this (really basic tbh) feature took so long.
In the post, they say it’s something they plan to do in the future building atop the changes they’ve made, so it’s not fixed yet.
While this is good since it provides some revenue beyond donations and also simplifies data backups, I think it’s kind of ridiculous that they still have not implemented a way to restore backups cross-platform (it’s just left as something they plan to do in the future). Like, is it really that hard to just export and import a file in a standard format?

IIUC tho anti-immigrant sentiment is rising (at least partly fueled by the massive waves of shitty tourists IMO), which prob isn’t a great sign based on what’s been happening in other countries.
Block the main instances/ones publicly recorded somewhere. That would basically cripple it for most people.

They’re getting taxes no matter what. If you just purchase American goods because you don’t want to give them money from tariffs, then all you’ve done is demonstrate that tariffs work since now American businesses are selling more.
Ideally, if corporations lose enough business, they’ll actually put pressure on the govt (of course, they might just roll over based on how things have gone so far). In any case, this isn’t even really a sacrifice on my end since a lot of American products are kind of shoddy.
I’m mainly purchasing things made outside the US at this point.
I’ve read a couple of the essays. On top of stuff like fawning over Stalin randomly and portraying everyone asking him questions in interviews or whatever as morons, they didn’t even answer the questions raised in their premise until the conclusion, and when they finally did, the answers were just completely unsatisfactory. Basically a waste of half an hour or whatever.

I mean, I don’t think I’d classify someone like that as straight up poor. They’re certainly working class, but if you can afford to survive for a year without work, you’re significantly more well-off than someone living paycheck to paycheck.
